The Manager – Data Analyst – IT is a leader who has a passion for data, analytics, and program execution with the willingness to dig deep into details. This role requires the ability to assess the big picture and focus on process improvement. Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders across Digital Channels, Personalization, and Loyalty technology, as well as leading, coaching, training, and retaining a talented team, are keys to success in this role. This team will interpret data gathered from various sources, identify patterns and trends, and turn it into actionable information that can improve business decisions. This is a highly visible role, presenting insights to VPs and other leaders. The role requires a strong communicator with a passion for finding the signal in data and the ability to suggest improvements to applications and metrics. The team will also support storyboarding, data engineering, advising on new feature development, KPI design, dashboard creation, and automation for digital leaders and groups of United.
Job Overview and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to a 4-8 member team (data analysts and data engineers), coaching and cultivating the team at the India Knowledge Center.
- Partner with Digital Channels, Personalization, and Loyalty application/systems technology and business partner teams to track new functionality and processes, learning existing applications/systems to identify and communicate timely insights into feature and system performance.
- Design and develop schemas, data acquisition, transformations, and data integration across various platforms that comprise United’s data strategy. Build and maintain databases, data pipelines, and data warehouses.
- Build trusted data products including dashboards and reporting products to support Digital Channels, Personalization, and Loyalty leadership, helping them make data-driven decisions from insights into both business functionality and application performance.
- Communicate and share updates with US and India-based senior leadership, along with putting together regular insight presentations.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, or another quantitative field (i.e., mathematics, statistics, economics, etc.).
- 6+ years of experience in Data Analysis, Business Intelligence, analytics, and data engineering, with 3+ of those years in a Fortune 1000 company.
- 1+ year of experience in a leadership/supervisory role.
- Deep understanding of both the business functionality of applications/systems being analyzed and the digital performance of the applications/systems providing the functionality.
- Develops and implements predictive/prescriptive data business intelligence.
- Develops streamlined and comprehensive data analytics workstreams.
- Manages and maintains project portfolio for the Digital Channels, Personalization, and Loyalty team.
- Areas of focus include, but are not limited to:
- Predictive and prescriptive analytics.
- Data Visualizations.
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
- Modeling and coding of data.
- Application performance analysis.
- Reporting and automation.
- Consulting with data customers.
- Intermediate to expert level BI dashboarding experience (e.g., PowerBI, Tibco Spotfire, etc.) to produce meaningful, elegant dashboards. Advanced Excel knowledge.
- Experience analyzing eCommerce systems: Web, Mobile App, Loyalty.
- Experience developing ideas for dashboards that provide insights into existing and new applications/systems, translating insights into non-technical terms, and putting together presentations for stakeholders and leaders at the MD and VP level.
- Ability to study/understand business needs, then design data/technology solutions that connect business processes with quantifiable outcomes.
- Ability to prepare presentations for senior leadership and interact with all levels of management.
- Strong problem-solving skills, using data to tackle problems.
- Outstanding writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proven People/Team Management.
- Expert level SQL skills.
- Hands-on experience working with massive data sets (SQL and Non-SQL).
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Aviation Management, or related degree, Operations Research, MBA.
- 3+ years in a leadership supervisory role.
- 2+ years of experience working at a Fortune 500 company.
- 1+ years of experience working at an international location other than home country.
- Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate, Power BI Data Analyst Associate, AWS Certified Data Analytics, Enterprise Data Warehouse certifications, Palantir, Client Side performance metrics tools e.g., Quantum Metrics certifications.
- Experience with Foundry/Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
- Previous airline or travel industry experience is a plus.
- Experience with AWS – Redshift, Quicksight, Athena.
- Experience with Big Query.
- Experience with Quantum Metrics and Akamai, Technologies and languages: Python, Spark, R, etc.
- Continuous integration & delivery using Agile methodologies.
- Data engineering experience with transportation/airline industry.
