Job summary

GE Vernova is seeking a Type Test Manager to lead the planning and execution of type tests for GIS and AIS circuit breakers. The role covers budgeting, lab operations, and liaison with Tendering and Project teams to ensure compliance with international standards.

You will oversee mechanical test labs, coordinate with external labs, manage test programs, and drive continuous improvements in testing methods and documentation.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive experience in HV switchgear type testing.
• Proficiency in IEC and IEEE HV switchgear standards.

Job Description Summary

The Type Test Manager will serve as the primary technical authority for the organization and execution of type tests for Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and Air-Insulated Switchgear (AIS) circuit breakers. This role spans the entire testing lifecycle—from initial planning and budget coordination to lab management and final documentation. The position will be a key technical liaison for Tendering and Project teams, ensuring products meet the highest international standards and customer expectations while overseeing mechanical test lab operations.

Job Description Roles and Responsibilities

Type Testing Excellence

• Strategic Planning: Lead the coordination of type test activities for GIS and AIS products, including the development of comprehensive test programs and physical test layouts.
• External Liaison: Manage relationships with external test laboratories and witnessing agencies to secure quotations, schedule test slots, and ensure alignment on test protocols.
• End-to-End Execution: Oversee the internal supply chain for testing, including budget management, Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy, production order releases, and logistics for test samples.
• Travel to Labs in India and Abroad
• Technical Compliance: Execute type tests in collaboration with witnessing agencies, ensuring all procedures adhere to international standards and internal quality requirements.
• Documentation & Approval: Maintain meticulous, traceable type test records and reports. Provide technical clarifications to support customer approvals and queries.
• Lab Operations & Strategic Management Facility Oversight: Manage the daily operations of GIS and AIS mechanical test laboratories, including load planning and resource scheduling.
• Maintenance & Upgrades: Develop and execute periodic maintenance plans for lab equipment. Proactively identify opportunities for facility upgrades, prepare budget proposals, and manage the procurement of new tools and technologies.
• Process Improvement: Proactively identify and drive opportunities for continuous improvement in designs, testing processes, and digital tools.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience specifically in the type testing of High-Voltage (HV) switchgear.
• Technical Standards: In-depth proficiency in international HV switchgear standards, specifically IEC and IEEE.
• Design Tools: Proficiency in CAD tools, including Creo Parametric and AutoCAD, for managing test layouts and technical documentation.
• Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with the ability to work effectively with global, cross-functional teams.
