Technical Writer/Editor & UX Writer for Microsoft

Anywhere from INDIA | Location: Remotely

Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and creative End User/UX Writer to join our team supporting Microsoft’s Content Excellence team. This role will focus on reviewing and editing content which addresses updates and critical customer issues with the software.

You will work on documentation for Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, OneNote), Windows, Edge, Surface, and more—ensuring clarity, consistency, and adherence to Microsoft’s voice and style.

In this role, you’ll rely on your investigative and analytical skills to identify and work with subject matter experts to verify content accuracy. You'll use tenacity and persistence when following up with key stakeholders. You'll use your ability to understand the content and how to describe it clearly and succinctly to ensure positive customer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and ensure that content meets publishing criteria.
• Collaborate with product teams and content leads to ensure content updates meet publication deadlines.
• Maintain Microsoft voice principles and style across all support and learn content.
• Review and edit content for grammar, punctuation, clarity, and adherence to Microsoft Style Guide.
• Ensure content meets legal and publishing standards, including proper use of trademarks and acronyms.
• Support special projects including bulk content updates, rebranding updates, content deprivation and redirect creation as needed.

Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech (Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication) or M.Sc/MCA with excellent English language skills or Masters degree in English, Technical Communication, Journalism, etc.
• 2 to 5 years of writing experience in consumer help content and/or UX writing.
• Editing experience (proofing, copyediting, developmental editing) and quality assurance skills preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft apps, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and others.
• Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with partners in product groups.
• Strong customer focus, including diplomatically communicating feedback.
• Solid problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Self-starter with excellent time management and ability to manage and balance workload.
• Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously; comfortable juggling different schedules and managing different processes across projects.
• Quick learner. Ability to pick up different authoring tools and technology.
• Strong tech writing/editing skills for end-user/consumer audience (writing help/support content a plus) with knowledge of Microsoft Writing Style Guide.
• Experience working with content management systems and tools. Any experience with C3, GitHub, Markdown; familiarity with Azure DevOps is a plus.
• This is a permanent remote work opportunity, and you can work from anywhere in India, but we expect flexibility to work overlapping hours with US time zone (PST)/late evening IST.
