Technical Lead - Real-time & Embedded Software

Pune, India

Zumbach Electronic is a leading Swiss technology company with a global presence, providing innovative measurement, control and monitoring solutions for industrial manufacturing processes. As part of our continued growth and innovation, we are establishing a new software development team in Pune, India, to support the development of software that powers our industrial measurement and automation systems, including our next-generation product platform.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Technical Lead – Real-time & Embedded Software to join this growing team. As one of the first engineers in our new software development group, you will play a key role in building and maintaining the software at the heart of our industrial measurement and automation products.

This is a highly hands-on technical position where you will design, develop and review production-quality C++ software for real-time, hardware-close applications running on Linux, from embedded devices through to PC-based systems. Working closely with our architecture, engineering and product teams in Europe, you will help establish technical standards, mentor colleagues and contribute to the long-term success of both our products and our expanding India development team.

About the Role

Your Main Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software for industrial measurement and data acquisition products, as well as contribute to our next-generation software platform
• Implement solutions within an architecture defined in collaboration with our European engineering teams
• Design, develop and support connectivity solutions based on industrial fieldbus technologies and IIoT standards
• Write, review and maintain high-quality, production-ready C++ code
• Establish engineering best practices, coding standards and software quality processes
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members
• Act as the local technical point of contact for the Pune software development team
• Work closely with our experienced India Service team to gain product knowledge and understand customer deployments and field applications
• Collaborate with international colleagues across multiple locations and time zones

Your Profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering or a related discipline
• 10+ years of experience developing real-time, hardware-close software systems
• Demonstrated passion for embedded and real-time software development
• Strong and current expertise in modern C++ and software engineering principles, including SOLID design practices
• Extensive experience developing software on Linux platforms and working across multiple layers of the software stack
• Practical experience with:
• Real-time acquisition and monitoring systems
• Digital and analogue control applications
• Embedded and hardware-integrated software development
• Strong knowledge of industrial communication technologies, including:
• Industrial fieldbus systems
• OPC UA and Industrial IoT (IIoT) technologies
• Solid understanding of embedded cybersecurity concepts, including:
• Secure-by-design development
• Secure coding practices
• Vulnerability managementSecure software update mechanisms
• Experience working in Agile development environments using Scrum and/or Kanban methodologies
• Strong discipline in code reviews, testing and continuous integration practices
• Previous experience mentoring engineers and supporting team development
• Fluent English communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across international teams

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with any of the following would be an advantage:

• Industrial communication protocols such as PROFINET, EtherCAT or EtherNet/IP
• MQTT or other emerging IIoT technologies
• FPGA-based systems
• Cybersecurity standards such as IEC 62443 or familiarity with the European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA)
• CI/CD tools and automation frameworks
• Additional programming languages such as Python or Rust
• PLC systems, particularly Siemens platforms
• Backend software supporting web-based GUIs and HMIs
• Experience helping to establish, scale or develop engineering teams
