Job summary

Sr. Mgr. Data Engineer

This role forms part of a data management and business intelligence team assigned to one of WPPs major global clients, who will be building and maintaining a global data warehouse, automated reports, and data provisioning applications to ensure that media and marketing stakeholders the world over will have access to the right data and insights to inform their marketing decisions.

As an Senior Manager, Data Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include deploying standardized Adverity data collection templates and DBT data transformation scripts, developing custom data collectors within Adverity and custom SQL data transformation scripts, working within and contributing to the team building the data warehousing solution, adhering to technical standards and best practices, and contributing to the documentation of custom work. You will oversee junior engineers work and development, and collaborate frequently with Data Visualization experts.

Some of the things wed like you to do:

• Implement and expand upon WPPs Measure reporting platform to suit the needs of the clients reporting and needs
• Deploy data collectors in Adverity to gather data from media, agency system, and other sources
• Develop and expand on existing data recipes and transformations in SQL via DBT run on Google Cloud Platform, borrowing and lending scripts from/to a central repository
• Development and maintain data quality checks and procedures, helping stakeholders overcome data issues before they impact the quality of the reporting solution
• Support the translation of user requirements and business needs into technical specifications
• Be a proficient user of Google Cloud Platform and associated technologies, ensuring your work incorporates industry best practice
• Monitor automated jobs, troubleshooting data issues as-and-when they arise
• Support other members of the team responsible for last mile transformation and visualization of data within Google Data Studio reports and dashboards
• Serve as a technical and professional leader for junior staff
• Provide hands‑on support to users of reporting solutions, helping the wider team triage and respond to user queries in a timely manner
• Attending internal stakeholder meetings, presenting your solutions, and providing updates on your work.
• Support the development strong working relationships with third‑party data providers that we rely on for access to necessary data

A bit about yourself:

Required

• Bachelor degree in Science or Engineering
• 6+ years experience in data engineering, preferably handling advertising media or marketing data
• Professional experience with Python, SQL, preferably deployed via DBT
• Analytically minded, enabling you to understand and overcome technically complex challenges, and to tell compelling stories with data
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to manage multiple tasks in an autonomous way
• Strong spoken and written communication skills, ensuring your thoughts and needs are heard and understood
• An ability to demonstrate a passion for the digital marketing ecosystem, and an understanding of the role that data plays within it
• Delivers best results when working in a team environment, and an ability to partner effectively with people of varying degrees of technical capability

Desirable

• Previous experience working with data and technology
• Experience with digital marketing platforms and the data they generate, in particular Google Marketing Platform, Facebook, Tiktok etc.
• An understanding of how data is tracked and exchanged in the process of digital advertising (e.g. role of ad servers and other third‑party tech vendors)
• Experience using or building reports with business intelligence software, ideally Microsoft PowerBI
• Work experience within a marketing organization, preferably at a media agency or related company (e.g. publisher, ad tech, client marketing org)
