Responsibilities

• Edit and proofread research articles, journal manuscripts, and scholarly content for grammar and consistency.
• Perform technical and language editing while preserving the author's meaning.

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Technical Editor & Proofreader with 34 years of experience in academic and journal publishing. The candidate will be responsible for editing, proofreading, and quality-checking scholarly manuscripts and journal articles to ensure accuracy, consistency, readability, and compliance with journal and client guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Edit and proofread research articles, journal manuscripts, and scholarly content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and consistency.
• Perform technical and language editing while maintaining the author\'s intended meaning.
• Review manuscripts for consistency in headings, terminology, abbreviations, units, references, tables, figures, and captions.
• Check references and citations for consistency with the required journal style.
• Review tables, figures, equations, footnotes, cross-references, and other article elements.
• Perform page-proof and final-proofreading of journal articles before publication.
• Identify typographical, grammatical, formatting, and layout-related errors.
• Follow journal-specific style guides, client instructions, and editorial standards.
• Check whether corrections and author/editor queries have been properly incorporated.
• Coordinate with authors, editors, copyeditors, and production teams to resolve content and editorial queries.
• Perform quality checks on final PDF and other publication-ready files.
• Ensure articles meet defined quality standards and publication timelines.
• Handle multiple journal projects and meet daily/weekly productivity and quality targets.

Required Skills

• Excellent command of written and spoken English.
• Strong knowledge of English grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, and academic writing.
• Strong proofreading and editorial skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Good understanding of academic and scholarly journal articles.
• Familiarity with references, citations, tables, figures, equations, and scientific terminology.
• Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Track Changes, Comments, and formatting.
• Ability to understand and follow journal-specific style guides and client instructions.
• Good communication, coordination, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet strict publication deadlines.

Qualification

• 34 years of relevant experience in journal publishing, academic publishing, technical editing, copyediting, or proofreading.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working with international journals or scholarly publishers.
• Experience in editing and proofreading research papers/manuscripts.
• Knowledge of APA, AMA, Vancouver, Chicago, or other journal-specific style guides.
• Familiarity with journal production workflows and final PDF quality checks.
• Knowledge of JATS/XML or digital publishing workflows will be an added advantage.
