Job summary

Egis is seeking a Senior Mechanical Director to lead the data centre design and delivery across India. You will drive engineering excellence, client engagement and project governance for hyperscale programs.

The role requires deep experience in mechanical design, BIM coordination, and cross‑functional leadership to ensure projects meet budget, schedule, and performance targets. Based across India, you will lead multi‑region initiatives with senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 18+ years in mechanical or HVAC engineering, with 8+ years in data centres.
• Proven delivery of hyperscale and colocation facilities, ideally multi-site and multi-region.
• Chartered or professionally qualified engineer (CEng or equivalent)

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical discipline leadership on hyperscale and colocation data centre projects.
• Set and uphold design standards, QA/QC and technical governance.
• Lead client presentations, design reviews and technical interviews at senior level.
• Support bids and proposals, including strategy, scope, resourcing and fee build up.
• Own P&L performance for the mechanical discipline: utilisation, margin, forecasting and resource planning.
• Coach, mentor and develop senior engineers and team leads.
• Work with BIM and digital teams to drive coordinated, efficient delivery.
• Build relationships with hyperscalers, colocation operators, developers and contractors.

About the Role

The position is open across Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, and Gurgaon.

Role purpose

• Lead the technical delivery and reputation of Egis's data centre mechanical design offer across India
• Act as the senior mechanical authority on hyperscale and colocation programmes, from concept through to handover
• Combine technical leadership with client engagement, bid support and P&L accountability

Key responsibilities

• Provide mechanical discipline leadership on hyperscale and colocation data centre projects
• Set and uphold design standards, QA/QC and technical governance
• Lead client presentations, design reviews and technical interviews at senior level

Discipline focus: Mechanical

• Cooling strategy for hyperscale and colocation facilities, including air, hybrid and liquid cooling (direct to chip, immersion)
• Chilled water systems, heat rejection, and water use optimisation
• PUE and WUE performance and energy efficiency
• Resilience concepts (N+1, 2N) and input to testing and commissioning
• Coordination with electrical, architecture, structure and BIM teams

What do we need from you

• 18+ years in mechanical or HVAC engineering, with 8+ years in data centres
• Proven delivery of hyperscale and colocation facilities, ideally multi site and multi region
• Prior experience at Director, Associate Director or Technical Director level
• Track record of managing a P&L or significant commercial responsibility
• Excellent presentation, negotiation and interpersonal skills, comfortable with C level and client stakeholders
• Strong coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams, with a working knowledge of BIM
• Chartered or professionally qualified engineer (CEng or equivalent), registered with a relevant professional body
• Degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline

• Experience working on international or multicultural teams
• Experience building or scaling a data centre practice
