We are seeking a Systems Design Engineer to support thedevelopment of a Multi-spectralImaging (MSI) payload , working acrosssystem architecture, opto-mechanical design coordination, andelectronics interfaces. This role is intended for anearly-career engineer with strong fundamentals, soundengineering curiosity, and the willingness to learn quickly ina multidisciplinary hardware environment.
The position willinvolve close collaboration with optics, opto-mechanics,camera electronics, firmware/FPGA, integration, and testingteams. The engineer will support the translation of missionand payload requirements into practical subsystem definitions,interface understanding, design coordination, and verification activities.
This is a hands-onsystems role suited to someone who is eager to learn,comfortable asking questions, and capable of independentlyworking through technical problems with guidance from senior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Support system and subsystem design activities for the MSI payloadacross optics, opto-mechanics, electronics, and interfaces.
- Assist in translating payload requirements into subsystem-level designinputs, interface definitions, and engineering documentation.
- Work with optics and opto-mechanical teams to understand alignment,packaging, structural interfaces, tolerances, and integration constraints.
- Support coordination with electronics teams to understand detectorinterfaces, control electronics, signal paths, power architecture, and basicembedded hardware concepts.
- Contribute to system budgets, trade studies, and engineering analysesrelated to performance, packaging, interfaces, and integration.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining technical documentation such asrequirements notes, interface descriptions, design summaries, review material,and test support documents.
- Participate in subsystem integration, lab bring-up, troubleshooting, andvalidation activities.
- Support engineering reviews, design discussions, and follow-up actionsacross multidisciplinary teams.
- Help identify design issues, interface gaps, and integration risksearly, and elevate them appropriately.
- Learn to evaluate technical trade-offs across optics, mechanics,electronics, and system-level requirements under the guidance of seniorengineers.
Requirements
Must Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
- 0–2 years of relevant experience in hardware systems, opto-mechanical systems, electronics, or related engineering development work.
- Basic understanding of optics and opto-mechanical concepts, including structural packaging, mounting, alignment sensitivity, tolerances, and mechanical integration.
- Basic understanding of electronics fundamentals.
- Interest in multidisciplinary system development involving optics, mechanics, electronics, and integration.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, interface descriptions, and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a willingness to learn by doing.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Systemsthinker with strong analytical and debugging skills.
