Job summary

Avaloq seeks an experienced Oracle Database Engineer to own end-to-end database platforms, drive performance, automation, and reliability at scale, supporting cloud transformation and platform engineering initiatives.

Key responsibilities include lifecycle management, high-availability design with RAC/Data Guard, RMAN backups, and proactive tuning. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable banking software solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
• 5–12+ years of Oracle database administration experience.
• Hands-on expertise with Oracle database upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

• Own Oracle database environments end-to-end across Dev/Test/Prod with availability and performance accountability.
• Lead installation, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management of Oracle databases.
• Drive proactive performance tuning and optimization strategies.
• Define robust backup and recovery strategies (RMAN).
• Design and manage high-availability architectures (RAC, Data Guard).
• Collaborate with cloud, platform, and application teams for integrated delivery.
• Mentor junior DBAs and uphold governance (patching, change, security).

Job Description

Role Summary

Owns Oracle database platforms end-to-end, driving performance, automation, and reliability at scale while contributing to cloud transformation and platform engineering initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Own Oracle database environments across lifecycle (Dev/Test/Prod) with end-to-end accountability for availability and performance
• Lead database installation, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management
• Drive proactive performance tuning and optimization strategies
• Define and implement robust backup and recovery strategies (RMAN)
• Design and manage high-availability architectures (RAC, Data Guard)
• Lead troubleshooting of complex incidents, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and drive long-term fixes
• Collaborate with cloud, platform, and application teams for integrated delivery
• Ensure compliance with operational governance (patching, change, security standards)
• Mentor junior DBAs (G4) and uplift overall team capability

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Database (19c/21c)
• Advanced SQL and PL/SQL expertise
• Deep expertise in RMAN backup/recovery
• Strong experience with Oracle RAC and Data Guard
• Advanced performance tuning and query optimization
• Strong scripting and automation capabilities

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on experience in OCI / AWS cloud database environments
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Ansible, Terraform)
• Exposure to Avaloq platform and banking domain systems
• Familiarity with observability/monitoring solutions
• Ownership mindset (SLA, uptime, reliability)
• Drive standardization and automation initiatives
• Ability to work with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams
• Mentor team members and influence technical direction

Qualifications

Education
