Job summary

Siemens Technology and Services Private Limited in Chennai seeks a System Engineer / Electrical Developer for MV switchgear engineering to design, document, and support electrical systems across project lifecycles.

You will collaborate with multiple engineers, own the electrical scope, draft wiring diagrams and BOMs, and provide factory and FAT support to ensure quality and compliance with global standards.

Qualifications

• Master’s/ bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 3+ years of engineering experience in MV Switchgear and control panels.
• Strong working knowledge of standard protection and control technologies.
• Experience with the design and application of electrical power distribution products and power systems.
• Ability to analyse customers’ technical specifications for protection and control solutions.
• Read, understand, and evaluate electrical schematics.
• Proficiency with E-Plan, Engineering Base, ELCAD, or AutoCAD Electrical.
• Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL, and NEMA LV Switchgear standards.
• Travel Required – Less than 10%.

Responsibilities

• Design & Documentation: create documents for customer approval and manufacturing of MV AIS switchgear per design specifications using engineering design and configurators.
• Collaboration: work with Application Engineers, Project Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers.
• Ownership: handle electrical design, drafting, customer and factory perspectives.
• Factory support: assist during manufacturing and FAT to ensure quality requirements.
• Process improvements: initiate product and process improvements through cross-team collaboration.
• Protection expertise: apply protection philosophy and select components.
• Closeout: prepare customer-facing closeout / as-built documents.

We are looking for: System Engineer / Electrical Developer – MV Switchgear Engineering

You’ll make an impact by:

• Job duties can be broken across 3 categories: “Design & Documentation”, “Collaboration”, “Support and Quality”
• Work independently to create all documents for customer approval and manufacturing of MV AIS switchgear for GMSG per design specifications using Engineering Design and Configurators software. Typical documents include Electrical schematics, Panel arrangement, Bill of materials, Nameplate schedule, Three-line drawings, & Wiring diagram.
• Collaborate with multiple partners across project lifecycles, including Application Engineers, Project Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers.
• Ownership of the overall work you're doing from an electrical standpoint – including design, drafting, customer and factory work point of view.
• Provide factory support during the manufacturing phase of your projects, making sure quality requirements are met. Also, in the process of providing technical support or clarifications to customers during FAT.
• Initiate and support product as well as process improvements through cross-team collaboration
• Expertise and Understanding of Protection philosophy and component selection
• Prepare Customer-facing Closeout / As built documents for the complete scope of work.

• Master’s/ bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 3+ years of engineering experience in MV Switchgear and control panels for EPC, engineering, manufacturing, utility, or industrial corporate environment.
• Strong working knowledge of standard protection and control technologies used in medium voltage distribution products with proven ability to share this knowledge with others.
• Experience with the design and application of electrical power distribution products and power systems/ power delivery.
• Ability to analyse customers’ technical specifications for the application of protection and control systems and various starters, and to apply appropriate product solutions to meet customers’ expectations in a cost-effective and timely manner. Offer alternative solutions to optimize profitability while meeting customer needs.
• Read, understand, and evaluate electrical schematics.
• Electrical drafting experience with E-Plan, Engineering Base, ELCAD, and/or AutoCAD Electrical, or similar.
• Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL, and NEMA standards for LV Switchgear. LVMCC
• Familiarity with the products and functions of RVSS, VFD, switching starters, intelligent devices, and LVMCC auxiliary equipment
• Multitask and manage large workloads and business demands
• Travel Required – Less than 10%.
