Job summary

Hitachi Energy India Operations Center in Chennai is seeking a Power Systems Engineer with 5–8 years of experience to lead substation design and design studies, including protection and insulation coordination. You will evaluate vendor documents, coordinate with suppliers, and support project teams in customer discussions.

Proficiency in PSCAD and MATLAB, along with strong English communication, will help you thrive in our multi-disciplinary environment and fast-paced workloads.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Power Systems is required.
• Experience with power system design and studies including protection, insulation coordination, and lightning study.
• Strong understanding of power system steady-state, dynamic, and transient behavior.
• Knowledge of international standards (IEEE/IEC/GIGRE) for component specification and studies.
• Proficiency in PSCAD and MATLAB.

Responsibilities

• Define topology and single line diagrams for FACTS solutions based on customer requirements.
• Specify main circuit components (Power Transformer, Power Electronics Valves, Reactors, Capacitors, CT, VT, Breaker) per customer specs and standards.
• Coordinate with suppliers and evaluate vendor design/test documents.
• Perform design studies including harmonic performance, protection coordination, and insulation coordination.
• Collaborate with other disciplines in project and tender deliveries.
• Support Project Management/ Product Management/ Application Engineering in customer acquisition and consultation.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

The opportunity:

The Hitachi Energy Indian Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 2300 skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, project Management, functional system testing, installation supervision, documentation and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest Operations hub. The India Operations Centre team at Chennai, Bangalore and Gurugram supports Hitachi Energy’s units in more than 40 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Hitachi Energy To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 80 countries.

How you’ll make an impact:

• Define topology and single line diagram for FACTS solution based on customer requirement.
• Specify main circuit components such as Power Transformer, Power Electronics Valves, Reactors, Capacitors, CT, VT, Breaker etc. based on customer specification and international standards.
• Co-ordinate with suppliers for the optimal design of components mentioned in the point above. Evaluate their design and test record documents.
• Perform design studies such as harmonic performance, protection design, insulation coordination including TOV/ TRV /lighting studies, loss evaluation and Reliability stuy.
• Coordinat e and communicate with other disciplines involved in project and tender deliveries.
• Participate in customer discussions and Support Project Management/ Product Management/ Application Engineering team in customer acquisition and consultation.

Your background:

• Master's degree in Power Systems and with relevant workexperience of 5-8 years.
• Experience with substation design and design studies such as protection, insulation coordination and lightning study.
• Experience with specifying power system components and evaluation of vendor documents.
• In-depth understanding of basics of power system steady state, dynamic and transient behavior.
• Design experience in power electronic based plants such as solar and wind will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of PSCAD and MATLAB. In- depth understanding of international standards (i.e., IEEE/IEC/GIGRE) for specifying power system components and design studies.
• Good team player with ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams. Good communication skills and well-organized individuals. Good focus on attention to details.
• Ambitious, creative thinker and problem solver. Ability to work effectively in a fast paced and highly fluctuating workload environment.
• Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
