Job summary

Hitachi Energy seeks a Power Systems Engineer in Chennai with 2–10 years of experience to design FACTS solutions and specify key components according to international standards. You will coordinate with suppliers, perform design studies, and support multiple project disciplines throughout tender deliveries.

Applicants should have PSCAD and MATLAB proficiency, strong understanding of power system dynamics, and be committed to safety and integrity in every task.

Qualifications

• M. Tech in Power Systems with 2–5 years of relevant experience.
• B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering with 5–10 years of relevant experience.
• Strong understanding of power system steady state, dynamic and transient behavior.
• Experience with substation design, protection and insulation coordination.
• Knowledge of PSCAD and MATLAB; familiar with IEEE/IEC/GIGRE standards.

Responsibilities

• Define topology and single line diagram for FACTS solutions based on customer requirements.
• Specify main circuit components such as transformers, power electronics valves, reactors, capacitors, CT, VT, breakers per specs and standards.
• Coordinate with suppliers for optimal component design and evaluate their test records.
• Perform design studies: harmonic performance, protection design, insulation coordination, loss evaluation, reliability.
• Coordinate with other disciplines in project and tender deliveries.
• Support project management/product management/application engineering in customer acquisition.
• Ensure design delivers on schedule, budget, and quality throughout project execution.
• Ensure adherence to external and internal regulations, procedures and guidelines.

How You’ll Make An Impact

• Define topology and single line diagram for FACTS solution based on customer requirement.
• Specify main circuit components such as Power Transformer, Power Electronics Valves, Reactors, Capacitors, CT, VT, Breaker etc. based on customer specification and international standards.
• Co-ordinate with suppliers for the optimal design of components mentioned in the point above. Evaluate their design and test record documents.
• Perform design studies such as harmonic performance, protection design, and insulation coordination studies, loss evaluation and Reliability study.
• Coordinate and communicate with other disciplines involved in project and tender deliveries.
• Participate in customer discussions and Support Project Management/ Product Management/ Application Engineering team in customer acquisition and consultation.
• Responsible for design, time schedule, budget, and quality of deliverables during the entire project execution process for system design scope
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background

• M. Tech, Power Systems and with relevant work experience of 2-5 years.
• B.E/B. Tech, Electrical Engineering and with relevant work Experience of 5-10 years.
• In-depth understanding of basics of power system steady state, dynamic and transient behavior.
• Experience with substation design and design studies such as protection, insulation coordination and lightning study.
• Design experience in power electronic based plants such as solar and wind will be an added advantage.
• Experience with specifying power system components and evaluation of vendor documents.
• Knowledge of PSCAD and MATLAB.
• In-depth understanding of international standards (i.e., IEEE/IEC/GIGRE) for specifying power system components and design studies.
