Job summary

UBS in Pune, India seeks an experienced Sustainability and Climate Risk Specialist to join Group Risk Control. The role focuses on embedding climate and nature risks into core risk management and advancing analytics-driven controls across 1LOD-3LOD.

You will partner with senior stakeholders to drive the transformation and ensure regulatory compliance globally. Responsibilities include leading SCR integration, challenging methodologies, and scaling data/AI for automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental sciences, climate science, sustainability, finance, economics, or business administration.
• 10+ years of experience in risk management within financial services or management consulting.
• Deep understanding of end-to-end bank risk management and sustainability risk integration.
• Experience designing and challenging methodologies, frameworks, controls or models.
• Proven ability to lead large-scale transformation with data, analytics and AI.
• Familiarity with ISSB, TCFD standards and evolving regulatory expectations.
• Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Fluent in English; other languages a plus.

About this Role

UBS is seeking an experienced Sustainability and Climate Risk Specialist to join the Sustainability and Climate Risk team based in Pune, India, as part of Group Risk Control. This role offers an opportunity to create meaningful impact by addressing sustainability, climate, and nature risks in financial markets. The position requires a professional skilled in designing, challenging, and embedding sustainability risk solutions into core risk management frameworks across a global bank. As a Risk Control Specialist, you will act as a second line of defense, partnering closely with senior stakeholders across the business to shape, challenge, and embed forward‑looking risk management practices. You will be responsible for leading the integration of climate and nature risk into existing risk frameworks while driving organizational transformation through advanced analytics and automation. The role involves critically reviewing methodologies, designing robust control frameworks, and ensuring regulatory compliance across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead the integration and continuous enhancement of climate and nature risk into existing credit, market and liquidity risk frameworks partnering with stakeholders across 1LOD, 2LOD, and 3LOD, and strengthening end-to-end embedding across the risk lifecycle
• Critically review and challenge the methodological soundness of sustainability, climate and nature risk approaches used in internal risk management processes, external disclosures and internal reporting
• Design, oversee, and continuously improve a robust and scalable control framework, ensuring strong governance, documentation, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance, including effective issue management and remediation
• Monitor regulatory developments and industry standards and assess their applicability to UBS’s business model
• Drive simplification, standardization, and scalability of SCR processes and frameworks across the organization
• Scale the use of data, advanced analytics, and AI to automate processes, reporting, controls, and insight generation

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental sciences, climate science, sustainability, finance, economics, or business administration
• 10+ years of experience in risk management within financial services and/or management consulting, with strong exposure to sustainability and climate risk (SCR/ESG)
• Deep understanding of end to end bank risk management, including credit, market, and liquidity risk, with the ability to connect sustainability risks across these domains
• Proven experience in designing, implementing, and challenging methodologies, frameworks, controls, or models related to climate and/or nature risk
• Demonstrated ability to drive large-scale transformation initiatives, including the use of data, analytics, and AI for automation and control enhancement
• Solid knowledge of key international sustainability, climate and nature standards (e.g., ISSB, TCFD) and evolving regulatory expectations
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior audiences; structured, proactive, and outcome-oriented
• Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus
• Curiosity to explore how AI can improve workflows, validated through sound judgment and alignment with policies, risk standards, and ethical use
