Qualifications

• Qualified accounting professional such as ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent.
• 10+ years of relevant professional experience in financial services, professional services, or a large corporate environment.
• Experience in controlling, financial reporting, accounting governance or assurance.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP or equivalent frameworks.
• Experience in sustainability/ESG reporting and familiarity with disclosure standards.

Responsibilities

• Enhance governance for sustainability disclosures and reporting; define processes, timelines and controls.
• Assign accountability for metric owners and disclosure owners.
• Review, challenge and approve proposed metrics for accuracy and completeness.
• Serve as SME on sustainability reporting topics and liaise with stakeholders on ESG metrics and controls.
• Partner with data providers and business units to embed effective controls across the reporting process.
• Perform content reviews, analytical reviews and impact assessments of reporting changes.
• Support internal and external assurance activities and coordinate with auditors.
• Define and review risk assessments at the metric level and establish mitigating controls.
• Monitor ESG regulations and update business processes to reflect new requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of governance, processes, controls, and documentation.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Sustainability Controller to strengthen the governance, controls, and oversight framework supporting sustainability and ESG reporting.

The role will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, consistency, and reliability of sustainability-related disclosures and reporting. The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of accounting and controlling expertise, sustainability reporting knowledge, regulatory awareness, and the ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders across functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Enhance and maintain the governance framework for sustainability disclosures and reporting, including:
• Defining governance processes, reporting timelines, documentation requirements, and control standards.
• Establishing clear accountability for metric owners and disclosure owners.
• Reviewing, challenging, and approving proposed sustainability metrics to ensure disclosures are accurate, complete, and fit for purpose.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on sustainability reporting topics and serve as a key point of contact for stakeholders on matters relating to ESG metrics, disclosures, controls, and reporting.
• Partner with data providers and business stakeholders to educate, enhance, and embed effective controls across the sustainability reporting process.
• Apply strong accounting and sustainability reporting expertise to perform:
• Content reviews of sustainability disclosures.
• Analytical reviews and reasonableness assessments.
• Impact assessments of reporting changes and revisions.
• Reviews of accounting and reporting implications arising from new requirements.
• Support internal and external assurance activities relating to sustainability reporting and act as an interface between auditors, assurance providers, and internal stakeholders.
• Define, perform, and review metric-level reporting risk assessments, identifying key risks and ensuring appropriate mitigating controls are established.
• Monitor developments in ESG regulations, sustainability disclosure frameworks, and reporting standards, and support the integration of new requirements into business-as-usual processes.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of sustainability reporting governance, processes, controls, and documentation.

Team / Function

You will be part of a Sustainability Controlling / Sustainability Finance function based in Pune, focused on governance, controls, risk management, and oversight across sustainability and ESG reporting.

The team manages the end-to-end lifecycle of sustainability reporting, working closely with Finance, Sustainability, Risk, Legal, Compliance, business teams, data owners, and other relevant stakeholders.

We are looking for individuals who are proactive, collaborative, analytical, and control-oriented, with the ability to interpret complex regulatory and reporting requirements and communicate them clearly to a wide range of stakeholders.

Required Experience & Expertise

• Qualified accounting professional such as ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent.
• 10+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably within the financial services industry, professional services, or a large, complex corporate environment.
• Strong experience in controlling, financial reporting, accounting, governance, or assurance.
• Strong accounting knowledge, including familiarity with relevant accounting standards such as IFRS, US GAAP, or equivalent frameworks.
• Understanding of financial services products and business models is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in sustainability / ESG reporting, including a solid understanding of ESG disclosure frameworks, reporting standards, and emerging sustainability regulations.
• Strong understanding of reporting controls, governance frameworks, risk assessments, and assurance processes.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify, investigate, and resolve complex reporting and control issues.
• Ability to interpret complex regulatory and technical requirements and translate them into practical business processes and controls.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at senior levels and across different functions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and effective manner.
• Experience in change management and end-to-end project delivery is an advantage.
