Job summary

Progress Rail Innovations is seeking a Contract role onsite in India to drive early PPAP activities with Design Engineering and Purchasing, and to elevate supplier capability for production-quality parts. You will work cross-functionally to ensure PR specifications are met and lead continuous improvement with suppliers.

The role requires mechanical engineering background with 3+ years, knowledge of DFMEA/PFMEA, PPAP, and strong communication. Travel may be needed to supplier sites.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree (Mechanical) with minimum 3 years of experience.
• Experience with fabricated components and their manufacturing processes (laser, form, weld, paint, assemble).
• Experience with electrical and electronic components (wires, plugs, terminals, harnesses, PCBs, etc.).
• Proficient oral, written skills and presentation skills.
• Basic understanding of DFMEA and PFMEA methodology.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and controls.
• Knowledge of PPAP, control plans, capability analysis.
• Strong communication skills; collaborative; change agent qualities.
• Creative thinking capability for problem solving, 8D, 5Y methodology.

Responsibilities

• Identify PPAP requirements early in Supplier Selection Process with PR Design Engineering and Purchasing and communicate them with clear documentation to supplier.
• Work closely with PR Design Engineering and Purchasing to develop supplier capability effectively and collaboratively for output of production quality parts, meeting PR specifications.
• Conduct supplier audits and coach for continuous improvement.
• Resolve chronic supplier quality issues at the supplier's manufacturing site for continuous improvement.
• Assist in cost reduction and supplier cost recovery projects with existing suppliers.
• Identify PR process gaps related to Supplier Excellence and make correction recommendations.
• Manage nonconforming supplier material with containment, rework and cost recovery.

Role & responsibilities

• Identify PPAP requirements early in Supplier Selection Process with PR Design Engineering and Purchasing and communicate them with clear documentation to supplier.
• Work closely with PR Design Engineering and Purchasing to develop supplier capability effectively and collaboratively for output of production quality parts, meeting PR specifications.
  • Identify high risk suppliers and their capabilities/risk items.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of manufacturing and engineering processes to guide improvement and solutions.
  • Programs manage capability efforts to include documented project plan with specific actions and deadlines.
  • Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) for NPI with suppliers.
  • Considerable creativity and initiative to problem solve, identify solutions as well as improvement opportunities.
  • Report out regularly, updating leadership.

• Identify PR process gaps as it relates to Supplier Excellence and make recommendations for correction.
• Manage nonconforming supplier material with containment, rework and cost recovery.

Preferred candidate profile

• Mechanical or electrical engineering experience
• ME or MBA degree
• Welding certification or knowledge and understanding of AWS, ASME, EN Standards
• Knowledge of locomotive, background in heavy manufacturing
• Knowledge of six sigma, lean manufacturing and corrective action planning; Six sigma black belt a plus
• Knowledge of LN, SAP, PowerBI, metrology, statistical measurement capability
