About the position

Subsurface Drilling Hazard Assessment Earth Scientist will characterize subsurface hazards and translate that into the impact on well design and operations. They will support Well Delivery Process (WDP) by delivering Subsurface Drilling Hazard Assessments (SSDHA), well planning and execution documents through all phases of WDP process. The role also involves working closely with Drilling Engineering, Asset Development, Petrophysics, and other Geology & Geophysics Operations (G&G Ops) Teams to develop mitigation strategies of identified subsurface hazards and risks. This role participates in the deployment of G&G Ops workflows and standards.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret seismic and well data to identify drilling hazards and geologic uncertainty. Integrate new well data into subsurface models and continuously improve hazard assessments. Develop subsurface drilling hazard assessments: Evaluate hazards including shallow gas, shallow water flow, faulting, instability, overpressure, fractured formations, gas hydrates, wellbore instability, and other key hazards. Identify primary and secondary drilling risks triggered by hazards. Collaborate with Drilling Engineering, Exploration, Asset Development, Petrophysics, Geomechanics, and Operations teams to develop mitigation strategies. Support well planning, assurance reviews, drilling execution, and post-well lookbacks. Maintain compliance with G&G Ops standards and the Well Delivery Process. Perform real-time surveillance and G&G Ops reporting and track/verify geological non-productive time during drilling.

Required Qualifications

Masters degree in Earth Science disciplines (Geology, Geophysics) or Petroleum Engineering or equivalent Engineering discipline 5-10 years of pertinent industry experience Direct experience of seismic interpretation, mapping, and well data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

5-10 years of experience in G&G Operations Direct experience in 2D/3D interpretation in Petrel Experience with well data analysis software such as Techlog, Geolog or RokDoc. Effective communication skills, initiative-taking individual Experience in working with cross-functional teams – earth scientists, drilling & completions, reservoir, and production engineers. Experience with mudlogging, wellsite or operations geology, pore pressure geomechanics, geosteering, subsurface hazard identification and understanding of the interplay between subsurface conditions and well operations.
