Job summary

Island School is seeking dependable, flexible Substitute Teachers to provide instruction and supervision when regular teachers are absent. The role is on-call and non-exempt, with daily pay depending on assignment and coverage needs.

Salary ranges include substitutes for PreK/Elementary Teaching Assistants up to $175 per day and regular classroom teachers up to $190 per day. Island School is a PK-12 independent day school with 450+ students and is accredited by WASC/HAIS.

Qualifications

• College degree and/or relevant teaching experience.
• Previous experience working with children/young people preferred.
• Candidates should be able to provide references validating reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

• Follow lesson plans or develop appropriate lessons aligned with Island School’s curriculum.
• Provide engaging instruction using appropriate methods and strategies.
• Maintain a positive, orderly, and respectful learning environment.
• Protect confidentiality of student, family, and school information.
• Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, and breaks.
• Ensure student safety and well-being at all times.
• Support students academically and socially per school expectations.
• Communicate professionally with students, parents/guardians, faculty, and staff.

Island School is seeking dependable, flexible, and student-centered Substitute Teachers to provide instruction and supervision for students when regular classroom teachers and teaching assistants are absent. Substitute Teachers play an important role in maintaining a positive, safe, and productive learning environment and supporting the continuity of student learning. The Substitute Teacher position is an non-exempt, on-call position.

Island School is a WASC/HAIS accredited PK-12 independent day school with a total enrollment of 450+ students.

Salary ranges are based on needs for coverage - substitute teachers for PreK/Elementary Teaching Assistants up to $175 per day and regular classroom teachers up to $190 per day.

Assignment. Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Necessarily Limited To

• Following lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher or developing appropriate lessons in accordance with Island School’s curriculum design.
• Providing engaging and effective instruction using appropriate teaching methods and strategies.
• Applying effective classroom management techniques to maintain a positive, orderly, and respectful learning environment.
• Be able to distinguish confidential/private information from general information and maintain the confidentiality of student, family, and school information.
• Supervising students during classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch periods, and other school activities.
• Ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of students at all times.
• Supporting students academically, socially, and behaviorally in accordance with school expectations and policies.
• Communicating appropriately and professionally with students, parents/guardians, faculty, and staff.

Candidates Should Have

• A college degree and/or relevant experience in teaching, education, or the field being taught.
• Previous experience working with children and young people is strongly preferred.
• Candidates should be able to provide references from previous employer(s) verifying reliability and satisfactory performance over a multi-year period, particularly in positions involving responsibility for children and young people.
