Verdantas is seeking a Substation Protection and SCADA Engineer in Pune to guide multi‑discipline substation projects and EPC deployments. You will lead protection and control design, plan execution, and vendor coordination for complex assets.

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years in substation electrical studies, protection, SCADA, and relay settings, with strong analytical writing skills and a readiness to travel as required.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in substation electrical protection, control, and SCADA engineering.
  • Experience reviewing protection, control, and SCADA drawings (one-lines, three-line, schematics).
  • Proficiency with SEL/GE relays and relay settings; knowledge of arc flash and short‑circuit studies.
  • Experience with RTU/DFR/HMI and metering systems; willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project plans, including scope of work and WBS for substations and EPC projects.
  • Manage substation project execution: scope, schedule, budget, and resources including vendors and contractors.
  • Track and stabilize projects, overcome obstacles, and meet client goals.
  • Attend client meetings and communicate changes to maintain relationships.
  • Prepare and review preliminary designs and proposals; lead documentation work.
  • Lead the development of plans, specifications, studies, estimates, and material lists.
  • Ensure QA/QC program adherence across projects.

Substation Protection and Control SCADA Engineer

We at Verdantas, seeking for experienced Substation Engineer to help us with our growing Workload. The candidate should be self-driven and detail-oriented and thrive on taking ownership, quickly adapting to challenges, and solving Problems.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop project plans, including project scope of work and WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) for complex multi-discipline-based substation Engineering projects and EPC projects
  • Manage Substation project execution, including project scope, schedule, budget, and project resources, including external vendors, consultants, and contractors
  • Effectively track and stabilize projects, implement solutions to obstacles, and ensure client goals are achieved
  • Attend client meetings and communicate concerns and changes with the client to ensure a positive relationship and growth opportunities
  • Prepare and review preliminary designs
  • Prepare proposals, including budgetary estimates
  • Lead the development of plans, specifications, studies, estimates, material lists, and other deliverables
  • Ensure team adherence to QA/QC program
  • Prepare job postings, conduct interviews, hire, onboard, train, and mentor engineers
  • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations
  • Perform project-related preliminary and pre-commissioning inspection site visits, including periodic travel to meet clients throughout North America to develop business
  • Read, interpret, and review technical drawings, schematics, isometrics, process & instrumentation diagrams, specifications, and system operating procedures
  • Develop and review bidding and construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and scopes of work
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles to research, design, and evaluate products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet project requirements and generate technical reports
  • Confer with the design team to incorporate design information and client standards into the construction documents
  • Prepare/review technical reports and correspondence for project designs and studies
  • Driving safety initiatives
  • Responsible for operational efficiency, including minimizing outstanding WIP and A/R by ensuring client milestones, budgets,and expectations are met
  • Prepare/review and/or monitor complex schedules to ensure the timely completion of the project work
  • Review testing and commissioning reports of substation equipment and protection, and SCADA communications relays
  • Engage in business development efforts and prepare responses to Requests for Proposals
Skills:
  • Proficiency in Engineering studies software such as ETAP, SKM, CDEGS/WinIGS, Microsoft Suite, AI tools, etc. Bonus if able to work with Millsoft, EMTP-RV, or PSSE
  • Proficiency in engineering standards such as IEEE, NESC, NEC, OSHA, etc.
  • Proficiency with project management, resource management, and financial analysis tools
  • Proficiency with NERC standards specifically with CIP, COM, MOD, PRC, and VAR.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
Education / Experience:
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience with substation electrical System Studies, protection, control, and SCADA Communication Engineering in the power industry and professional services for greenfield and brownfield substations (preferred)
  • Experience in reviewing electrical protection, control, SCADA communication drawings for the following drawing types - one-lines, logic diagrams, three-line, control schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams
  • Experience in SEL/GE relays, relay settings, system studies such as arc flash, short circuit, coordination, and engineering studies such as grounding analysis, lightning studies, duct bank thermal analysis, cable Voltage drop, conduit/tray % fill, illumination, AC & DC system sizing, equipment sizing, etc.Bonus if able to perform transient / harmonic analysis.
  • Experience in development of point list and logic schemes for Line, Bus, Feeder, Breaker Failure, and Remedial Action Schemes.
  • Experience with RTU, DFR, Historian, HMI, and Metering Systems for billing, status, and control purposes
