Ideal candidates have substantial ML/Data Science experience, hands-on work with generative models and PyTorch, and a track record in academia or industry with publishing or training experience.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years in ML/Data Science with 3+ years in advanced ML research or design.
• 2+ years hands-on with generative models, Transformers, diffusion models, or RLHF in distributed cloud environments.
• Proficiency with PyTorch, Azure Machine Learning, Microsoft Foundry, Hugging Face, and W&B.
• Dynamic on-camera presentation capabilities to record instructional video modules.

Responsibilities

• Discovery & Alignment: Validate JTA documents, IDT frameworks, and program architectures to align with advanced research scientist roles.
• Content Development & AI Augmentation: Create materials including case studies, critiques, guides, and code scripts; enhance drafts with real-world context.
• Core Technical Instruction: Develop content on mathematical foundations, Transformers, diffusion models, LoRA/PEFT, RLHF, ablations, and Azure ML workflows.
• Activity Testing & Lab Validation: Complete learner activities across Azure ML, Foundry, PyTorch, Hugging Face, and W&B to verify accuracy.
• Assessment Design & AI Audit: Design quizzes, critiques, and capstone projects; formulate rubrics for research soundness and reproducibility.
• Multimedia & Video Production: Lead on-camera instruction and create PyTorch notebooks for student labs.
• Governance & Safeguards: Enforce data lineage, anonymized datasets, Contoso scenarios, and Responsible AI principles.
• Review, QA & Collaboration: Provide inline feedback and fixes; collaborate with Instructional Designers, SMEs, and production teams.

Job description

We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to develop and maintain high-quality online course content for the Microsoft Professional Certificate in Microsoft AI Research Science. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in machine learning foundations, deep learning architectures, experiment design, and the Microsoft research stack, combined with a genuine passion for teaching and dynamic on-camera instruction.

• Discovery & Alignment: Validate Job Task Analysis (JTA) documents, Coursera In-Demand Topic (IDT) frameworks, and Program Architectures to ensure content directly aligns with advanced research scientist roles.
• Content Development & AI Augmentation: Create comprehensive instructional materials including case studies, research paper critiques, concept guides, and code scripts. Substantively enhance AI-generated drafts with first‑hand research scenarios, compute constraints, and real‑world practitioner context.
• Core Technical Instruction: Develop content across mathematical foundations, Transformers, diffusion models, LoRA/PEFT fine‑tuning, RLHF, controlled ablation studies, statistical significance testing, and Azure ML workflows.
• Activity Testing & Lab Validation: Complete all learner activities end‑to‑end as a student across Azure Machine Learning, Microsoft Foundry, PyTorch, Hugging Face, and W&B to verify code accuracy, UI references, and dataset integrity.
• Assessment Design & AI Audit: Design technical quizzes, paper critiques, and capstone projects. Formulate rubrics to evaluate research soundness, reproducibility, benchmark validity, and human‑in‑the‑loop responsible AI auditing.
• Multimedia & Video Production: Appear on camera to lead instructional video modules and paper walkthroughs, while building synthetic research datasets, ablation templates, and PyTorch code notebooks for student labs.
• Governance & Safeguards: Enforce strict data lineage standards, ensure all case studies rely on anonymized datasets, apply Contoso for failure scenarios, and integrate Microsoft Responsible AI principles.
• Review, QA & Collaboration: Provide actionable in‑line feedback and proposed fixes in shared documents, partnering closely with Instructional Designers, Systems SMEs, and production teams while upholding Microsoft guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

• 7–10 years in ML/Data Science with 3+ years in advanced ML research, deep learning architecture design, or research engineering.
• 2+ years of hands‑on experience with generative models, Transformers, diffusion models, or RLHF in distributed cloud environments.
• Demonstrated technical proficiency with PyTorch, Azure Machine Learning, Microsoft Foundry, Hugging Face, and W&B.
• Dynamic on‑camera presentation capabilities to record instructional video modules with authentic conviction.
• Master's degree in CS, ML, Applied Math, Statistics, or related field (12+ years of directly relevant experience accepted in lieu).

Preferred:

• PhD in AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or Computational Science.
• Track record of published research papers in top AI venues (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR) or corporate training experience.

Certification (Required/Preferred)

• AI-300 / AI-103 or equivalent Azure ML & Microsoft Foundry experience (Required/Preferred)
• Deep Learning Specialization Certifications (Preferred)
