Job summary

Sarthee Consultancy is hiring a Dy. Manager- Steel for a leading shipyard manufacturing company in Mumbai. The role requires prior shipyard or shipbuilding production experience and involves planning, quality control, safety, and documentation across hull renewal and outfitting.

The candidate will supervise production activities at dry dock facilities, ensure adherence to QA plans, and manage subcontractor billing and audits where applicable. A diploma or bachelor's in engineering is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have experience in ship yard or shipbuilding production.
• Experience in shipbuilding production is mandatory.
• Exposure to hull renewal and hull outfitting activities is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Production Planning & Execution: develop micro-plans for steel repair work and supervise Hull renewal and Hull Outfitting at Dry Dock, FOB and P/E Berth.
• Quality Control & Testing: coordinate stage-wise inspections and perform NDT, Hydrostatic, Hose and Air Pressure Testing as required.
• Safety and QHSE: enforce safe practices for heavy lifts (>20 tons), hot work, and confined space activities.
• Documentation & Handover: maintain Quality Records and facilitate HOTO for blocks/GAs to next stages.

Key Responsibilities

• Production Planning & ExecutionDevelop and drive detailed micro-plans for steel repair work based on the General Production Schedule (GPS). Supervise and execute Hull renewal and Hull Outfitting (SWA/SCS/WI/02) at the Dry Dock, FOB, and P/E Berth. Study the defect list as provided by the Client / Commercial department during the bidding stage and prepare Scope of work to enable correct assessment of manpower and material requirement. Hnadling of Sub-contractor bills post refit, handling of Audit queries.
• Quality Control & TestingResponsible for offering and coordinating stage-wise quality inspections as per the Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) and Inspection Offer Sheets. Oversee and conduct Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) checks and Hydrostatic, Hose, and Air Pressure Testing (APT) for hull integrity as required by Classification Society rules. ISO certification Internal / external Audit.
• Safety and QHSEEnsure strict adherence to safe working practices, especially for Heavy Lifts (over 20 tons), Hot Work, and Confined Space activities. Ensure all lifting tools are checked and certified periodically.
• Documentation & HandoverMaintain accurate Quality Records (QR), including Accuracy Check Sheets and Manufacturing Rework Registers. Facilitate the Handing Over Taking Over (HOTO) process of blocks/GAs to next stages (e.g., Blasting & Painting).

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Naval Architecture, Marine, Production, or relevant discipline) from a recognized institution.
