Ansh is seeking a Training Lead to manage and scale Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) training across Madhya Pradesh, ensuring high standards and effective implementation in government facilities.
You will design curricula, deliver training, and oversee nurse performance, collaborating with program teams and partners to translate field insights into improved practice.
Remuneration : INR 9,00,000 to 12,00,000 CTC per annum
Location : Madhya Pradesh, preferably Bhopal. Remote with up to 50% travel.
Terms of employment : 1 year, renewable based on deliverables and performance
Around 500,000 newborns die in India every year. Most are low birthweight or premature babies. Kangaroo Mother Care — skin-to-skin contact, close monitoring, exclusive breastfeeding — reduces neonatal mortality by 33–50% and carries the WHO’s strongest possible recommendation. The evidence is settled. The problem is getting it to actually happen inside government systems and communities, at scale, consistently.
Ansh is dedicated to saving newborn lives by building healthcare capacity to implement Kangaroo Care in government systems in India. Our mission is to create a scalable and cost-effective model that implements and promotes Kangaroo Mother Care and other impact focused newborn care best practices.
Founded in 2023, we now have more than 170 on-ground full-time staff, 3 implementation partners, and 10 core team members delivering our programs in 15 District Hospitals. We estimate a neonatal mortality reduction of 33-50% as a result of Ansh programs, and GiveWell estimates our work saves one life per $2500. Now we’re expanding to new states, starting with Madhya Pradesh.
Ansh's KMC programs succeed or fail on the strength of the teams delivering them. Skin-to-skin contact, danger sign monitoring, and exclusive breastfeeding only save lives when nursing staff are trained well, supported continuously, and held to a high standard of practice. In this role, you will manage training, and own the quality of KMC practice across every Ansh-supported facility in Madhya Pradesh.
You will lead Ansh's training function end to end, from curriculum design through to what happens at the bedside. The job has three main parts: designing and continuously improving the training modules and materials through which nurses learn KMC, delivering training across all Madhya Pradesh facilities, and managing nurse performance in collaboration with our program team and implementation partners so that every facility has a strong, supported team of KMC nurses. You will also ensure that what we learn from the field feeds back into better training and better programme decisions.
Design and continuously improve training modules and curricula for Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) and related programs, ensuring alignment with international best practices and local healthcare needs.
Develop resources for training and technical program operations, including guides, PPTs, SOPs, and posters.
Identify and integrate innovative training methodologies, including digital, experiential, and activity-based learning approaches.
Regularly review and update training curricula based on new evidence, guidelines, and feedback from participants to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
Lead efforts to incorporate cultural sensitivity and local context into training materials to enhance applicability and engagement.
Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of in-person and remote training sessions for staff across all MP facilities, ensuring effective and impactful implementation.
Facilitate specialized training, e.g., on iKMC, infection prevention and control (IPC), breastfeeding techniques, and behavior change communication.
Collaborate with the programs team and implementation partners (IPs) on nurse management and technical guidance for ground teams, guiding and monitoring their work, and sharing continuous feedback on areas for improvement.
Monitor and evaluate nurse performance across all MP facilities and oversee performance escalation pathways in collaboration with IPs, ensuring a strong team of KMC nurses.
Foster a supportive culture of continuous improvement for nursing staff by ensuring regular counseling sessions and feedback loops to address challenges and promote skill enhancement.
Address resistance to change and implement strategies to enhance the receptivity of staff to training and constructive feedback.
Maintain open and effective communication with program teams, healthcare workers, and nursing staff to facilitate collaboration and a culture of continuous improvement.
Support the collection, analysis, and utilization of performance metrics to identify areas of improvement in nursing practices and program implementation.
Provide actionable insights and recommendations to management based on performance data and feedback from the field.
Develop strategies for scaling training programs to additional facilities and regions while maintaining cost-effectiveness and impact.
Around 5+ years of relevant experience in clinical training, nursing education, or health workforce capacity building, ideally within or alongside government health facilities in India.
A track record of designing and delivering training for frontline health workers, and of translating technical guidelines into materials that busy field staff actually use.
Fluent in Hindi and English, and comfortable operating in North Indian government hospital contexts.
Based in Madhya Pradesh (or willing to relocate) and willing to travel extensively to district hospitals across the state.
High ownership and agency: you find a way to get things done instead of waiting for perfect conditions.
Deep alignment with Ansh's mission, and a serious, evidence-based commitment to impact.
A background in nursing, midwifery, or public health.
Experience managing or mentoring nursing or clinical teams, with the credibility to give constructive feedback and the warmth to keep staff engaged through it.
Familiarity with KMC, maternal and newborn health programmes, the NHM/SNCU ecosystem, or quality-of-care frameworks (e.g. LaQshya, NQAS).
Experience with digital and blended learning approaches for health worker training.
Prior experience working through or alongside implementing partner organisations.
We care more about how fast you can grow into this role than about where you start today.
You will join a high impact organisation which is scaling rapidly.
You’ll have real ownership over things that matter.
A high-leverage, high-autonomy position in a young, ambitious, evidence-driven organisation with room for outsized personal impact as we scale.
You'll learn a lot about what it takes to run a health program inside the Indian public system.
The core team is small, takes the mission seriously, and is honest about what's going well and what isn't.
Your work will save lives . This is a rare role where the line between what you do and children surviving is short and direct.
