Toast Bengaluru is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack for the Guest team to help drive Guest engagement, retention, and growth using AI-powered capabilities. The role balances technical excellence with a strong product mindset in a fast-moving product space.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate across teams, and contribute to the evolution of cloud-native backend services on AWS, building scalable features with a focus on quality and reliability.

Qualifications

• 8-12 years of backend service and API experience.
• Strong Java or Kotlin experience with testing and reliability best practices.
• Experience shipping production services with emphasis on stability.
• Experience building scalable distributed systems.

We’re seeking a Staff Software Engineer to work within our team focused on building impactful capabilities that empower restaurants to drive Guest engagement, retention and growth. The team will help shape the future of how restaurants use technology to connect with their guests - increasingly through AI-powered tools and experiences that drive automation, personalization and smarter decision-making. You will be a key part of a high-impact, high-ownership engineering team solving complex challenges in a fast-moving product space. Your engineering leadership will be balancing technical excellence alongside a strong product mindset to solve for continuous growth within both the team and our product space.

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain highly resilient and scalable features

• Collaborate with UX and PM on the definition and design of features

Do you have the right *ingredients (Requirements)

• 8-12 years experience building backend services and APIs
• Extensive experience working with an Object Oriented Language like Java or Kotlin, with a deep understanding of testing, quality, and best practices
• Experience shipping production services and balancing getting things done with platform stability and reliability
• Experience building backend services and APIs and scaling distributed systems
• Focused on delivering positive impact for the company customers
• Enjoys working in a team environment with a shared code-base
• Excellent cross-team communication skills on complex technical topics
• Experience building cloud-native systems on AWS.
• Experience influencing technical direction across multiple teams.
