Job summary

PAR Technology is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in India (Jaipur/Gurugram) to build scalable software and mentor teams. The role requires deep Ruby on Rails expertise, experience with distributed systems, and leadership in a fast-growing environment.

You will design, develop, test, release, and maintain core PAR/Punchh components, while scaling features to support multi-region deployments and large data volumes. Collaboration and craftsmanship are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Hands-on Ruby on Rails is mandatory.
• Strong background in design patterns, data structures & algorithms.
• Experience with distributed, microservices-based architectures.
• Cloud experience (AWS or similar) and multi-region deployments.
• Proven ability to lead by example and mentor engineers.

About The Role

We are looking for a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer who is passionate about building scalable, high-quality software and mentoring engineering teams. This role requires a strong hands-on technologist with deep expertise in Ruby on Rails, experience designing distributed systems, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-growing, high-scale environment.

What You’ll Do

• Coach and mentor engineers, helping develop some of the best technical talent in the industry.
• Design, develop, test, release, and maintain core components of PAR/Punchh products.
• Build high-quality, scalable, and reliable software that is widely adopted by customers.
• Architect and scale features to handle 2x-4x annual growth, managing systems with millions of records and terabytes of data.
• Play a key role in technical design and architectural decisions, building toward an efficient microservices-based distributed architecture.
• Drive best practices around code quality, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Take ownership of deliverables and obsess over engineering excellence and craftsmanship.

What You’ll Need

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Ruby on Rails (mandatory).
• Excellent design and coding skills in:
• Ruby on Rails (must-have)
• Golang
• Experience with Java, C#, or other backend languages is a plus.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including:
• Design Patterns
• Data Structures & Algorithms
• Operating Systems
• Experience working with large-scale data systems, including both relational and NoSQL databases.
• Proven ability to solve complex technical problems with a hands-on mindset.
• Experience with microservices architecture and platform migration to modern architectures.
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS or similar), including:
• Cost optimization
• Multi-region deployments
• Solid understanding of web technologies, including:
• HTTP lifecycle
• REST APIs (hands-on)
• Caching strategies
• Messaging technologies
• API security
• Experience building and scaling large, performant enterprise applications.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
