Job summary

CommBank in Bengaluru is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to design and implement BIAN APIs within Payments Technology – Payments Platform. You will lead API and Cloud Engineering efforts, govern solution designs, and champion a Design to Run approach to ensure robust, production-ready systems.

You will guide ideation, discovery, and inception, collaborating with Solution Architecture and SMEs to deliver end-to-end solutions while driving continuous improvement across Core Product systems.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in building REST APIs and deploying applications to WebSphere/Web Server
• Experience in creating CI/CD pipelines using Github Actions
• Experience in AWS services: Lambda, API Gateway, IAM Roles & Policy, Beanstalk
• Fargate, VPC, Subnets, Route tables, Load balancers
• Expertise in Java and Kotlin with Spring/Hibernate
• CI/CD Tools: Github, Github Actions, SonarQube, Snyk, Docker, Kubernetes
• Gradle/Maven
• Experience using AI tools to automate engineering tasks (Claude/Gemini/Roo/Cline CLI)
• Monitoring and logging tools: Splunk, AppDynamics
• Technical leadership to guide engineers and cross-functional teams
• Advise on architecture improvements and design patterns

Impact &contribution:

As a Staff Software Engineer within Payments Technology – Payments Platform, you will be responsible for implementing the designs within your application to align to Payments Reference Architecture. Specifically, as a Staff Software Engineer, you are expected to develop solutions and guide design to drive outcomes across the Core Product Systems within Payments Platform. You are responsible for design analysis and the estimation process from Business Case, ideation, discovery and inception phases

Roles & responsibilities:

• Design and implement BIAN APIs and specifications
• Lead high performing API and Cloud Engineering team
• Ownership and governance of solution designs
• Adopt a ‘Design to Run’ mentality to architect robust solutions that are fully supportable in a production environment
• Provide developmental advice and consult for business case/ideation, discovery, inception and enhancement requests by examining current vs target architectures ensuring align with ES strategy and architecture standards
• Collaborate with Solution Architecture and functional SMEs to prototype solutions to explore alternatives, seeking simple & standard solutions with a low cost of ownership
• Collaborate with upstream and downstream system representatives to ensure an integrated end to end solution is delivered to achieve the desired outcomes
• Proactively seek opportunities for continuous improvement of Core Product systems and data to leverage existing capabilities
• Work with senior technical and business management teams in identifying issues of current state architecture, developing target state architecture with the ability to communicate the features and benefits
• Effectively lead and influence business partners, peers, team members and vendors
• Identifies and engages stakeholders, including architecture disciplines, asset owners, delivery owner, business stakeholders and SMEs to ensure architecture is optimal, and has the greatest chance of success
• Effectively challenges business leaders to obtain the best technology solutions and fit with ES strategy

Essential skills:

• 12+ Years of experience in building rest APIs&Well versed with deploying application to Web Server preferably WebSphere
• Experienced in creating CI-CD pipelines using Github Action
• Experience in implementing AWS lambda, API gateway, IM Roles & Policy, Bean Stalk,
• Fargate, VPC, SubNets, Route tables, Load balancer etc.
• Expertise in Java, AWS services, Spring, Hibernate and Kotlin
• CI-CD Tools – Github, Github Action, Sonar Qube, Snyk, Docker, Kubernetes,
• Gradle/Maven
• Expertise in using AI tools to automate engineering tasks –Claude/Gemini/Roo/Cline CLI, MCP server/client, RAG architecture.
• Monitoring and logging tools – Splunk, AppDynamics, ObserveInc, Obstack
• Technical leader who can be relied upon to develop and lead engineers
• Technical leadership of tools and technologies within capability (develop, build,
• test automation, deployment, monitoring & logging, or service management &
• orchestration) being specialized
• Strong understanding of application architecture and knowledge of software
• implementation best practices and object orientated design principles

Education Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology.
