Job description

Staff FuSa Engineer
We Are

Synopsys is the leader in engineering solutions from silicon to systems, enabling customers to rapidly innovate AI-powered products. We deliver industry-leading silicon design, IP, simulation and analysis solutions, and design services. We partner closely with our customers across a wide range of industries to maximize their R&D capability and productivity, powering innovation today that ignites the ingenuity of tomorrow.

You Are

You have spent years in the automotive safety world and you know that functional safety is not a checkbox exercise. It is the discipline that keeps systems from failing in ways that matter. You understand that ISO 26262 compliance starts long before the audit and that the difference between a solid safety case and a fragile one is usually in the rigor of the work three months earlier.

You are comfortable reading through a Technical Safety Concept, spotting the gap in an FMEDA, or walking a design team through why their architecture creates a single point of failure they have not yet seen. You do not treat standards as obstacles. You treat them as frameworks that make better products possible, and you know how to translate safety requirements into engineering decisions that actually stick.

Working across global teams does not intimidate you. Neither does sitting with a customer who has hard questions about ASIL D compliance and expects answers that hold up under scrutiny. You bring structure to ambiguity, you build tools when the manual process does not scale, and you care about getting it right because you know what is at stake when safety critical systems go into production.

At Synopsys, you will work on automotive IP that powers the next generation of self-driving cars, ADAS systems, and smart vehicles. The standards are real, the customers are demanding, and the work you do will directly affect how safe those systems are.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Own functional safety compliance for automotive DesignWare IP products, ensuring conformance to ISO 26262 across the full development lifecycle
  • Develop and review ISO 26262 work products including Technical Safety Concepts, FMEDA, FTA, DFMEA, DFA, Safety Plans, and Safety Cases for digital IP at ASIL levels up to ASIL D
  • Collaborate with global product development teams to integrate functional safety requirements into IP design, verification, and release processes
  • Engage directly with automotive customers to address functional safety, quality, and reliability requirements, providing technical guidance and compliance documentation
  • Build automation scripts and tools to streamline safety analyses, improve consistency and scale functional safety workflows across multiple IP projects
  • Lead and participate in functional safety reviews, audits, and assessments, delivering clear reports and actionable recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain, refine, and enhance functional safety methods, templates, and processes to keep pace with evolving automotive standards and customer expectations
The Impact You Will Have
  • Enable Synopsys automotive IP to meet the safety and reliability standards that OEMs and Tier 1s depend on for next-generation vehicle platforms
  • Reduce time to compliance for new IP releases by building reusable safety artifacts, automation, and repeatable workflows that scale across product lines
  • Strengthen customer confidence in Synopsys IP by delivering rigorous, audit-ready safety documentation and responsive technical support during their safety assessments
  • Influence IP architecture and design decisions early, catching safety risks before they become costly redesigns or certification blockers
  • Advance the maturity of functional safety practices across Synopsys IP teams, raising the bar for how safety is integrated into silicon development
  • Support the deployment of safer autonomous and ADAS systems by ensuring the IP inside them has been developed to the highest functional safety standards
  • Build tools and methods that make safety analysis faster, more accurate, and less dependent on manual effort, freeing engineers to focus on higher-value work
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 7+ years
  • Formal training in ISO 26262, with demonstrated experience applying it to hardware development in safety critical applications
  • Hands-on experience qualifying systems to ISO 26262 ASIL levels, including ASIL D, with a solid understanding of hardware and software functional safety lifecycles
  • Proficiency in creating and reviewing ISO 26262 work products such as FMEDA, FTA, DFMEA, Technical Safety Concepts, and Safety Cases
  • Understanding of semiconductor development flows and experience with digital design at the IP or SoC level
  • Experience working on ISO 26262 Part 5 (hardware level) is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with hardware description languages (Verilog, VHDL, or SystemVerilog) is an advantage
Who You Are
  • You can walk into a design review, spot a safety gap in the architecture, and explain the risk in the terms the team understands without derailing the conversation
  • You are comfortable building scripts in Python, Perl, or similar languages to automate repetitive safety analysis tasks and improve workflow efficiency
  • You know how to work with customers who have deep expertise in automotive safety and you hold your own in technical discussions about failure modes, diagnostic coverage, and safety mechanisms
  • You bring structure to ambiguous projects, you create plans that keep cross-functional teams aligned, and you follow through without needing constant oversight
  • You understand that functional safety is a team sport, and you know how to influence engineers, product managers, and customers without formal authority
  • You stay current with automotive reliability standards like AEC Q100 and quality frameworks like ISO 9001 or IATF 16949, and you see how they connect to functional safety work
The Team You'll Be Part Of

You will join the Automotive Functional Safety team within the Silicon IP business unit, working closely with DesignWare IP development teams across digital interfaces, processors, memory, and analog IP. The team operates globally, collaborating with engineers in the US, Europe, and Asia, and engages directly with automotive customers including OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. Your work will span multiple IP product lines, and you will contribute to building the safety infrastructure that enables Synopsys IP to meet the rigorous demands of the automotive market.

Rewards and Benefits

We offer a comprehensive range of health, wellness, and financial benefits to cater to your needs. Our total rewards include both monetary and non-monetary offerings.
