Job summary

Arctic Wolf in Bengaluru is hiring a Staff Developer for its Data Platform. You will shape and evolve systems enabling large-scale storage and rapid searching of cybersecurity data, collecting telemetry from endpoints, networks, and cloud sources across customer environments.

You’ll work with Python, Go, and Java on AWS and Kubernetes, building distributed services with Kafka, Elasticsearch, Databricks, and Spark.

Qualifications

• 8–13 years of backend or distributed system experience.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale data systems.
• Proficient in Python, Go, or Java with strong OO skills.
• Strong SQL skills and data query optimization.
• Hands-on with Elasticsearch, Kafka, and cloud native stacks.

Position Overview And Objective

As a Staff Developer for Arctic Wolf’s Data Platform, you will work on shaping and evolving the systems that enable large‑scale storage and rapid searching of cybersecurity data. This telemetry data is collected from customers by leveraging endpoint, network, and cloud data sources both inside and outside our customers’ networks. Our team designs, builds, and manages large‑scale distributed systems that empower both customers and internal teams to better understand and improve security posture.

You will operate at the intersection of big data, distributed computing, and cloud technologies.

Our existing stacks include both custom‑built and open source components written in Python, Go, or Java, deployed within Amazon Web Services. We leverage Kubernetes and other containerized platforms. Major components include Kafka, Elasticsearch, Databricks, and Spark, along with additional custom application services developed in‑house.

In this role, you will provide technical leadership across initiatives, influence architectural direction, and ensure our platform scales reliably and sustainably as the business grows. You will be expected to navigate ambiguity, take end‑to‑end ownership of solutions, proactively identify gaps and risks, and drive outcomes across multiple teams with a high degree of independence.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, and end‑to‑end delivery of complex, high‑impact data platform initiatives, ensuring scalability, reliability, and long‑term sustainability.
• Drive cross‑team technical direction by influencing architectural decisions, establishing engineering best practices, and developing reusable frameworks and design patterns.
• Take end‑to‑end ownership of solutions, from problem definition and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support.
• Identify gaps, risks, technical debt, and missing requirements independently, developing practical solutions and driving them to completion.
• Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to align platform investments with business objectives and long‑term strategic goals.
• Lead technical discussions and decision‑making in ambiguous situations, engaging the appropriate stakeholders to gather context, build alignment, and drive outcomes.
• Mentor and elevate engineers across teams through design reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing, and leadership in incident reviews and post‑mortems.
• Improve operational excellence across reliability, observability, testing, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure while maintaining a high bar for software quality.

Experience & Requirements

• 8-13 years of experience working on backend or distributed systems.
• Strong experience designing and operating large‑scale systems in the big data space.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, exercise sound judgment, and independently drive technical initiatives to successful outcomes.
• Relevant experience developing software in Python, Go, Java, or other object‑oriented languages.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, system design, and scalable data architectures.
• Strong SQL expertise, including experience with complex queries, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), window functions, query optimization, and performance troubleshooting.
• Strong experience with search and analytics technologies, including Elasticsearch and Elasticsearch DSL or similar query languages.
• Comprehensive experience integrating with RESTful APIs and building service‑oriented systems.
• Experience with columnar and/or time‑series databases (e.g. Databricks, Elasticsearch, ClickHouse, etc).

• Experience with Amazon Web Services and cloud‑native architectures.
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes and containerized environments.
• Strong understanding of software quality practices, including automated testing, code reviews, observability, validation strategies, and other mechanisms used to ensure reliable, maintainable systems.
• Ability to work cohesively across multiple teams and influence technical direction beyond a single codebase.
• Proven track record of mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards.

Nice‑to‑have Experience

• Understanding of query execution and optimization internals, including query planning, pruning, optimization techniques, execution strategies, and internal query representations.
• Experience with modern data lake and analytics technologies such as Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, Databricks, Trino, Spark, or similar large‑scale data processing and query platforms.
• Experience with message queue systems such as Amazon SQS, Kafka, or similar technologies.
