JOB OVERVIEW:
The Drone Integration Engineer will be responsible for end-to-end integration, validation, troubleshooting, and flight-readiness of UAV platforms. The role involves integrating flight controllers, propulsion systems, sensors, payloads, telemetry links, RC systems, power systems, and ground control interfaces.
The engineer will work closely with design, embedded hardware, software, production, quality, and flight test teams to ensure reliable, safe, and production-ready drone systems. The role requires strong hands-on capability in UAV system integration, ground testing, flight validation, issue debugging, documentation, and production handover.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own UAV platform integration from prototype build to production handover.
- Integrate and validate flight controllers, sensors, GNSS/compass systems, telemetry radios, RC receivers, payloads, cameras, gimbals, propulsion systems, power modules, ESCs, motors, and battery systems.
- Configure and validate UAV systems using tools such as Mission Planner, QGroundControl, ArduPilot/PX4-based tools, and relevant vendor configuration software.
- Develop and execute integration test plans to validate system functionality, communication interfaces, power distribution, control response, failsafe behavior, payload operation, and flight readiness.
- Perform bench testing, ground testing, vibration checks, compass/GNSS validation, communication range checks, endurance testing, and pre-flight validation.
- Troubleshoot integration issues related to wiring, firmware, communication links, payload interfaces, power systems, sensors, flight controller configuration, and mechanical-electrical fitment.
- Analyze flight logs to identify root causes related to vibration, EKF/GPS health, communication loss, power instability, control issues, motor/ESC behavior, payload malfunction, or system-level failures.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, embedded hardware, software, manufacturing, quality, and flight test teams for system-level issue closure.
- Prepare and maintain wiring diagrams, interface control documents, integration procedures, test reports, issue trackers, troubleshooting guides, and production checklists.
- Support field trials, customer demonstrations, certification testing, production troubleshooting, and post-delivery issue resolution.
- Assist in evaluating and selecting UAV components such as flight controllers, radios, GNSS modules, payloads, cameras, gimbals, batteries, ESCs, motors, propellers, and onboard computers.
- Support design reviews, flight-readiness reviews, failure review boards, and corrective action closure.
- Ensure that integration activities follow safety requirements, engineering standards, configuration control, and applicable UAV regulatory expectations.
- Contribute to the development of user manuals, maintenance instructions, training material, and production handover documentation.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Strong hands-on understanding of multirotor UAV architecture, including flight controller, propulsion, power, communication, payload, sensor, and ground control systems.
- Practical experience with ArduPilot and/or PX4-based UAV platforms.
- Experience with Pixhawk/Cube-class flight controllers, Mission Planner, QGroundControl, and flight controller parameter configuration.
- Knowledge of UAV communication interfaces such as UART, CAN, I2C, SPI, PWM, SBUS, Ethernet, and MAVLink.
- Experience with GNSS, compass, barometer, telemetry radios, RC links, payloads, cameras, gimbals, ESCs, motors, batteries, BECs, power modules, and power distribution systems.
- Ability to perform UAV ground testing, integration testing, flight testing, and post-flight log analysis.
- Strong troubleshooting capability for hardware, firmware, software, wiring, communication, power, and field-level issues.
- Understanding of EMI/EMC basics, vibration effects, sensor placement, cable routing, grounding, and integration reliability.
- Ability to read and prepare wiring diagrams, interface documents, integration checklists, test procedures, and technical reports.
- Good coordination skills to work with design, manufacturing, embedded, software, QA, and flight operations teams.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple integration tasks, and close technical issues with ownership.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Experience with Python, Lua scripting, C/C++, or embedded debugging.
- Experience with SITL/HITL testing, drone simulation, automated test setups, or telemetry data analysis.
- Experience in small UAV platforms from prototype stage to production stage.
- Knowledge of DGCA type certification, UAV safety compliance, quality documentation, and production readiness.
- Experience with onboard computers, AI payloads, Ethernet cameras, gimbals, thermal cameras, mapping payloads, or surveillance payloads.
- Experience with field trials, customer demonstrations, defense/security use cases, or government drone projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- B.Tech/B.E. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related engineering field.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in UAV/drone integration, avionics integration, embedded systems integration, flight testing, or related engineering roles.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication, documentation, and cross-functional teamwork abilities.
