Job description

Senior Technical Program Associate — STEM Technical Specialist

(4+ years of experience)

Hybrid with Field Travel

Job Overview

The Senior Technical Program Associate / STEM Technical Specialist will serve as a technical anchor and program leader for MakerGhat's hands-on STEM, maker, robotics, and AI learning initiatives. This role goes beyond facilitation — it requires someone who can lead the technical design of programs, set up and scale makerspaces, mentor junior educators, build robust curriculum frameworks, and drive high-quality implementation across schools and geographies. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise across maker tools and platforms, strong pedagogical grounding, and the leadership maturity to represent MakerGhat's technical vision with partners, government institutions, and communities.

About MakerGhat

MakerGhat is an education non-profit nurturing India's youth to become entrepreneurs and leaders. Our team brings together education and design experts from Stanford and Georgia Tech, non-profit and industry leaders, educators, and makers of all ages. We partner with government, leading nonprofits, corporates, and research institutions to implement hands-on, high-quality STEM and maker programs in schools and colleges across India.

Reports to: Curriculum Lead

CTC: INR 7–12 Lakhs (flexible based on experience and leadership depth)

Responsibilities and Duties

1. Technical Program Leadership

  • Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of MakerGhat's STEM, robotics, maker, and AI programs across partner institutions
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for school, government, and corporate partners
  • Define technical standards, implementation benchmarks, and quality criteria for all hands-on programs
  • Coordinate with Operations, M&E, and Curriculum teams to ensure seamless program delivery at scale
  • Represent MakerGhat's technical vision in partner meetings, reviews, and public forums

2. Advanced Maker Technology — Arduino, Electronics & Robotics

  • Design and lead advanced sessions on Arduino, microcontrollers, embedded systems, and sensor-based projects
  • Build complex robotics prototypes and guide students from concept to working model
  • Introduce students to IoT architecture — device connectivity, data flow, cloud integration, and real-world automation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware and electronics challenges independently and under field conditions
  • Develop technical troubleshooting guides and hardware maintenance SOPs for field teams

3. 3D Printing, Digital Fabrication & Prototyping

  • Lead digital fabrication programs covering 3D printing, laser cutting, and rapid prototyping workflows
  • Train students and teachers in CAD tools (Tinkercad, Fusion 360, or equivalent) from basics to design-for-manufacture
  • Build and manage multi-printer makerspace environments, including workflow scheduling and maintenance protocols
  • Introduce design thinking and iterative prototyping as core competencies within maker programs
  • Develop reference documentation, video guides, and self-paced learning materials for fabrication tools

4. Coding, Scratch & MIT App Inventor

  • Design a progressive coding curriculum spanning block coding (Scratch) through app development (MIT App Inventor) across grade bands
  • Lead advanced Scratch sessions incorporating hardware integration, game design, and creative computing
  • Facilitate MIT App Inventor sessions focused on real-world problem solving, local context, and student-led app ideas
  • Build assessment frameworks and learning milestones for coding programs across grade levels

5. AI Tools Training & AI Literacy Programs

  • Lead the design and delivery of AI literacy programs for students and educators at scale
  • Develop structured workshops on generative AI, prompt engineering, AI ethics, and responsible use
  • Train teachers to confidently integrate AI tools into their existing classroom practice
  • Create age-appropriate, low-resource AI learning modules aligned with school realities
  • Stay ahead of fast-moving AI tool developments and continuously update program content accordingly

6. Makerspace Design, Setup & Scale

  • Lead end-to-end makerspace design — space planning, tool selection, procurement, layout, and safety setup
  • Develop makerspace blueprints adaptable to different school sizes, budgets, and infrastructure constraints
  • Build systems for tool inventory, usage tracking, maintenance schedules, and consumables management
  • Create makerspace handover playbooks that enable schools to run spaces independently post-setup
  • Conduct makerspace audits and provide technical recommendations to improve utilisation and safety

7. Teacher & Educator Training

  • Design and lead multi-day teacher training programs covering maker pedagogy, technical tools, and facilitation skills
  • Build comprehensive training kits — facilitation guides, visual SOPs, troubleshooting references, and video walkthroughs
  • Mentor junior Maker Educators and provide structured coaching, observation feedback, and performance support
  • Develop competency frameworks for teacher readiness and define progression pathways for educator skilling
  • Conduct classroom observations and follow-up coaching sessions to ensure training translates to practice
  • Architect grade-wise, competency-linked curriculum frameworks spanning maker, robotics, coding, and AI domains
  • Develop detailed lesson plans, project briefs, facilitation scripts, and student workbooks
  • Ensure all curriculum materials are low-resource, teacher-friendly, contextually relevant, and scalable
  • Lead curriculum review cycles using classroom data, teacher feedback, and M&E insights
  • Build assessment rubrics, student portfolio frameworks, and learning outcome documentation systems
  • Mentor and guide junior Maker Educators and program associates on technical skills and facilitation quality
  • Conduct regular technical knowledge-sharing sessions and internal capability-building workshops
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and induction of new technical team members
  • Contribute to building a strong maker culture within the MakerGhat team

Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in STEM education, maker programs, or technical program delivery
  • Deep expertise in Arduino, electronics, robotics, and IoT — able to design, build, and teach advanced projects independently
  • Proven experience in 3D printing operations, CAD-based design, and digital fabrication workflows
  • Strong experience teaching Scratch and MIT App Inventor across multiple age groups
  • Experience designing and delivering AI literacy or AI tools training for students and / or teachers
  • Demonstrated experience setting up or managing makerspaces or STEM labs
  • Experience in curriculum development — lesson plans, frameworks, or learning progressions
  • Experience conducting teacher training or professional development workshops
  • Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to lead a team, mentor junior educators, and drive quality at scale

Preferred:

  • Experience working with government schools or large-scale public education programs
  • Exposure to advanced platforms — Raspberry Pi, ESP32, Fusion 360, laser cutters, or CNC machines
  • Knowledge of project-based learning (PBL), inquiry-based learning, or design thinking frameworks
  • Experience managing multi-state or multi-city program implementation
  • Degree / diploma in Engineering, Education, Design, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Multilingual ability (Hindi + regional language) for field engagement across geographies

Who This Role Is For

  • Has grown beyond facilitation and is ready to lead technical programs and mentor a team
  • Can hold both the big picture — curriculum design, program architecture — and the ground detail — a broken printer, a sensor that won't fire
  • Is a trusted technical expert who partners, teachers, and students turn to for guidance
  • Thrives in field-heavy, resource-constrained environments and finds creative solutions under pressure
  • Is deeply passionate about making STEM and AI accessible to students from all backgrounds
  • Wants to help build systems, not just deliver sessions — and leave a lasting impact on schools and communities
