Job summary

Morningstar in Navi Mumbai (4 days in office) seeks a Senior Staff Software Development Engineer to solve complex technical problems and drive cloud‑based services powering the PitchBook platform.

You will lead hands‑on development, architect decisions, and mentorship, applying DDD and microservice patterns while collaborating with the Architecture Team and stakeholders in an Agile setting. This role emphasizes strong communication and leadership across multiple teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years with a Master's; or 4 years with a PhD.
• 8+ years in Software Development or Engineering roles.
• 6+ years of experience with Java or a similar object‑oriented language.
• 4+ years of experience developing micro services.
• Experience with Service-Oriented & Microservices Architecture, Cloud Architecture, Domain Driven Design (DDD), Clean Architecture, Hexagonal Architecture.
• Fluent in identifying and applying architecture patterns, designing RESTful API.
• Experience with AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience with Spring Boot/Spring Framework and Kubernetes.
• Excellent technical communication and leadership abilities.

Job description

Role: Senior Staff Software Development Engineer

Location: Vashi, Navi Mumbai (4 days working from office)

As a Senior Staff Software Development Engineer within the Product organization, you will be responsible for solving most complex and challenging technical problems, and unlock delivery of value for services that power the PitchBook platform. You will be essential in applying your broad and deep experience in technology, problem solving abilities and ability to conduct hands on solution exploration and experimentation to guide technical teams, and enable them to build and release exceptional solutions relied upon and used by thousands of PitchBook customers every day; you will work with PitchBook professionals around the world with the collective goal of delighting our customers and growing our business.

The teams will rely on your broad and deep experience in building and delivering comprehensive cloud solutions, and lean on your expertise in trade‑off analysis and ability to identify options for the problems to solve and validate the right architecture and design with hands on. With your strong analytical skills, you'll be able to break down abstract and complex problems into smaller problems and apply Domain Driven Design approaches such as identifying bounded contexts and establish decomposition process. You will be expected to devise solutions based on limited information and precedent to find creative ways to tackle challenges. It is essential that you will be able to interpret, assess and resolve a wide range of issues and be able to select the right course of action.

You will collaborate with the PitchBook Architecture Team, as well as many internal stakeholders of different roles, backgrounds, who may have varying degrees of understanding of the domain. You may need to adapt your style of communication based on the audience you are interacting with and will be relied on to influence decisions to build optimal solutions to complex challenges. Additionally, as a technical expert in a broad set of domains, you will be expected to engage actively in promoting architecture guidelines, principles, and practices across team(s), and be a driver for consistency and alignment for cross cutting concerns.

Primary Job Responsibilities

• Hands‑on development will be a large part of the responsibilities.
• Quickly learn and trial hands on new technology, assess and validate assumptions, identify flows or risks that support the technical directions.
• Ensure qualities/non‑functional requirements of the platforms and products are defined, measurable and are continuously evaluated to deliver the right product to our users.
• Document technical designs, communicate, elaborate with architects and other teams
• Implement well‑designed, testable, and efficient code that meets product requirements, coding standards, performance, scalability, reliability, and the organization's goals and principles, which can be used as reference implementation by other teams.
• Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, and other internal stakeholders in an Agile environment.
• Provide technical guidance with different team members.
• Design and deliver on end‑to‑end initiatives with little to no guidance.
• Define and participate in processes that improve products using return on experience, root cause analysis of incidents.

• Mentor and assist developing junior roles including Staff Software Development Engineers.

Skills And Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a similar field.
• Minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 4 years experience; or equivalent experience
• 8+ years in Software Development or Engineering roles.
• 6+ years of experience with Java or a similar object‑oriented language.
• 4+ years of experience developing micro service.
• Experienced in Service‑Oriented & Microservices Architecture, Cloud Architecture, Domain Driven Design (DDD), Clean Architecture, Hexagonal Architecture, Domain Driven Design
• Fluent in identifying and applying architecture patterns, designing RESTful API
• Have worked on middleware, platform, or system of systems.
• Experienced with web technologies and standards (e.g., JSON, JWT).
• Experienced with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experienced in Spring Boot/Spring Framework.
• Experienced with Container orchestration software (e.g., Kubernetes).
• Highly experienced working within development teams in an Agile environment.
• Ability to handle a project through the entire software development lifecycle, end to end.
• Demonstrate ability to lead and/or provide guidance to junior peers across multiple teams.
• Excellent technical communication skills, written and verbal.
• Demonstrated strong problem‑solving ability.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite including in‑depth knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily.

Working Conditions

The job conditions for this position are in a standard office setting. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on‑going basis throughout the day.
