Job summary

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in integration middleware or workflow platforms (Scitara DLX or equivalent).
  • Experience designing Adaptive Workflows using best practices.
  • Proficient in Python, SQL, and JavaScript; working knowledge of C++.
  • Experience parsing data and building orchestration logic with Python/JavaScript.
  • Proficient in automated testing for validation (pytest, Jest, Robot Framework, Tosca).
  • Experience with NoSQL (DynamoDB/Redis) and relational DBs (Oracle/Postgres).

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical analysis and design for lab instrument integrations.
  • Develop Scitara DLX Adaptive Workflows and APIs, parsers, and orchestration logic.
  • Translate requirements into detailed technical implementations.
  • Build backend integration services with APIs and messaging patterns.
  • Integrate Scitara DLX with Empower, BIOVIA, MODA, GLIMS, LabX for data capture.
  • Create and run automated unit tests for validation and release readiness.
  • Support QA, validation, and testing activities across environments.
  • Troubleshoot integration defects and data/workflow issues.

Role Overview

The Technical Analyst / Developer (TA) is responsible for the design, development, testing, deployment, and sustainment of instrument integration solutions, with a primary focus on Scitara DLX Adaptive Workflow development. The role also includes supporting cloud platform engineering responsibilities required to deploy, operate, and sustain Scitara DLX and related COTS components in AWS-hosted environments.

This role combines hands-on integration development with pragmatic cloud and operational ownership, ensuring solutions are compliant, scalable, and fit for use in GxP-regulated laboratory environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform technical analysis and solution design for laboratory instrument and system integrations.
  • Design, develop, test, and sustain Scitara DLX Adaptive Workflows, including APIs, OPCUAs, parsers, orchestration logic, and supporting JSON schemas.
  • Translate business and functional requirements into detailed, testable technical implementations.
  • Develop backend integration services using modern integration patterns, including APIs, orchestration, and messaging/event-driven architectures.
  • Integrate Scitara DLX with laboratory and execution platforms (e.g., Empower, BIOVIA, MODA, GLIMS, LabX) to enable compliant instrument data capture and data flow.
  • Develop and execute automated unit tests to support validation, release readiness, and regression coverage.
  • Support system, integration, and validation testing activities in collaboration with QA and validation partners.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot integration defects, data issues, and workflow failures across environments.
  • Contribute to reusable workflow patterns, libraries, and integration standards.
Cloud Platform Engineering & Operations
  • Deploy and operate COTS components using Helm on AWS EKS (Kubernetes).
  • Support the application lifecycle, including environment setup, upgrades, rollbacks, backup configuration, and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Contribute to and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and/or CloudFormation for AWS resources supporting Scitara DLX.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) for controlled deployment of workflows and platform components.
  • Follow and contribute to IaC Patterns/modules where implemented.
  • Configure and support required cloud services, as applicable
    • AWS RDS (MS SQL Server)
    • Amazon S3 / MinIO-compatible storage
    • Amazon MQ (RabbitMQ)
    • Amazon ElastiCache (Redis)
  • Support platform security, monitoring, and logging configurations in alignment with enterprise standards.
Validation, Compliance & Documentation
  • Collaborate with laboratory, quality, and validation teams to ensure solutions support GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11, and ALCOA++ expectations.
  • Provide technical input and evidence to support validation activities, including automated testing alignment (e.g., Tosca/Xray).
  • Author and maintain technical documentation such as design specifications, workflow logic descriptions, runbooks, and architecture diagrams.
  • Support change control and release readiness activities for regulated deployments.
Ways of Working
  • Work closely with Business Analysts, Testers, Platform, Infrastructure, and Networking teams.
  • Participate in Agile delivery, sprint planning, estimation, and day‑to‑day task tracking using Jira and Confluence.
  • Proactively identify integration risks, technical debt, and opportunities for improvement.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Science, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience supporting integration middleware or workflow platforms, including Scitara DLX or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing Adaptive Workflows using design best practices.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and JavaScript; working knowledge of C++.
  • Experience developing parsers and custom orchestration logic using Python and JavaScript.
  • Proficiency with automated testing for validation purposes, including but not limited to
    • Python frameworks (unittest, pytest, doctest, nose2, hypothesis)
    • JavaScript frameworks (Jest, Mocha, Chai, Jasmine, AVA)
    • Experience developing automated tests using Tosca and Robot Framework for Systems and Integrations.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, Redis) and working knowledge of relational databases (Oracle, Postgres).
  • Practical experience deploying or supporting applications on AWS, including
    • Kubernetes / EKS environments
    • Helm-based application deployment
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Deep proficiency in GitHub Actions workflow design, workflow_call reusability, composite action authoring, matrix build strategies, and environment-scoped secret management.
  • Working knowledge of JSON Schema mapping, Data governance concepts and FAIR data standards.
  • Experience using Jira and Confluence for task tracking and documentation.
  • Ability to work within enterprise deployment, release, and change management processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Deep hands‑on experience developing and sustaining Scitara DLX workflows in regulated environments.
  • AWS professional-level certification (e.g., Solutions Architect Professional or DevOps Engineer Professional), strongly preferred; expected to be obtained within the first 3 months of starting the role.
  • Experience in implementing AWS services such as RDS SQL Server, S3 and message broker like RabbitMQ and datastore like Redis.
  • Experience with observability and logging platforms (CloudWatch, Grafana, nobl9).
  • Experience using Xray for requirements and test traceability.
  • Hands‑on experience developing and maintaining JSON schemas.
  • Hands on experience in Allotrope data models.
  • Familiarity with Postman or Swagger for API testing and documentation.
  • Experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
  • Experience working in pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other regulated IT environments.
Success Milestones
Within 3 Months
  • Independently delivers at least one production‑ready Scitara DLX Adaptive Workflow or integration.
  • Demonstrates strong ownership of Adaptive Workflow logic, data handling, review and validation support.
  • Contributes to cloud-hosted deployments of Scitara DLX and supports upgrades or releases.
Within 6 Months
  • Independently delivers at least three production‑ready Scitara DLX Adaptive Workflow or integration.
  • Demonstrates strong ownership of workflow logic, data handling, and validation support.
  • Contributes to cloud-hosted deployments of Scitara DLX (EKS/Helm) and supports upgrades or releases.
  • Establishes automated unit tests aligned with validation expectations.
  • Produces workflow and operational documentation actively used by the team.
  • Builds trusted partnerships with Business Analysts, QA/Validation, and Platform teams.
Within 12 Months
  • Owns multiple Scitara DLX workflows and integrations with minimal oversight.
  • Demonstrates measurable improvements in laboratory data flow, compliance, or operational efficiency.
  • Contributes reusable workflow patterns, integration standards, or testing utilities.
  • Provides technical review and mentoring support to peers on Scitara development practices.
  • Recognized as a key technical contributor to this company instrument integration and digital lab capabilities.
