Job summary

Applied Materials, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain complex software for semiconductor equipment. You will work with Core Java, Spring, microservices, and modern tooling in a global team, traveling as needed to customer sites.

This on-site Bangalore role focuses on delivering high-quality software across platforms and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovation in semiconductor equipment solutions.

Qualifications

• B.Tech/M.Tech in Computer Science or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience in software product development.
• Strong expertise in Core Java and modern Java features.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem.
• 4+ years designing and developing Microservices or SOA-based systems.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, messaging systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka).
• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and performance optimization.
• Experience with Kubernetes, CI/CD, DevOps practices.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites as required.

Responsibilities

• Own feature development from design through implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Define software specifications, architecture, and test strategies for new features.
• Troubleshoot complex software issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement robust fixes.

As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials, you’ll dive deep into ground‑breaking technologies—like machine learning and AI—to craft novel software solutions that solve our customers’ high‑value problems. Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. You'll develop software documentation and test procedures, troubleshoot software problems, and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements. As part of our team, you'll contribute your expertise in intricate systems, deciphering code, and anticipating software behaviors to ensure Applied remains the leader in the semiconductor and display sectors.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

• B.Tech/M.Tech in Computer Science or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience in software product development.
• Strong expertise in Core Java and modern Java features such as Streams, Functional Programming, Concurrency, and Virtual Threads.
• 5+ years of hands‑on experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem.
• 4+ years of experience in software design, including HLD, LLD, OOAD, Design Patterns, SOLID, GRASP, Clean Code principles, and code reviews.
• 4+ years of experience designing and developing Microservices or SOA‑based systems.
• Experience with event‑driven architectures, messaging systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka), and asynchronous distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and performance optimization.
• Experience using AI‑powered engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, Rovo, or similar tools to improve SDLC productivity.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites in the US, Taiwan and Korea as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Semiconductor or Metrology/Inspection domain experience.
• Experience in UI/front‑end technologies (React, Angular, etc.).
• Experience with workflow orchestration frameworks such as Temporal, Apache Airflow, or similar platforms.
