Job summary

Aqilea India is seeking a QA Engineer to own and drive the Quality Engineering strategy for a 30-member engineering team in Bangalore (Hybrid). You will lead API and backend automation, define quality gates, and integrate tests into CI/CD.

The role emphasizes automation, data quality, and proactive defect prevention. The candidate will manage multiple initiatives, work closely with Developers, Tech Leads, and Product teams, and ensure robust test coverage across REST APIs and databases.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years in Quality Engineering / Software Testing.
• Strong API and backend automation experience.
• Hands-on with Bruno or Postman for API validation.
• Experience with automation frameworks (Playwright/Selenium).
• Strong REST API, SQL/NoSQL testing skills and CI/CD exposure.
• Good understanding of .NET/C#, Azure and CI/CD pipelines.
• UI testing is secondary; focus on backend/API automation.

ROLE PURPOSE

We are looking for a Quality Engineer to own and drive the overall Quality Engineering strategy, roadmap, automation, manual testing, quality metrics and continuous improvement across a 30-person engineering team. This is a hands-on role with strong ownership, requiring the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Strategy & Ownership

• Define and drive the Quality Engineering strategy, roadmap and priorities across multiple initiatives.
• Establish quality standards, Definition of Done, quality gates and release-readiness criteria.
• Identify and proactively manage quality risks across parallel initiatives.
• Drive shift-left, risk-based testing and quality-by-design practices.
• Design, develop and maintain robust API, integration, regression and end-to-end automation.
• Strong focus on backend/API automation rather than UI-only testing.
• Develop reusable automation frameworks and scripting for test execution, validation and test data.
• Use Bruno, Postman or equivalent API testing tools for API validation and automation.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and establish effective quality gates.
• Perform manual, exploratory, functional, integration and regression testing where automation is not appropriate.
• Validate APIs, integrations and data across SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Identify automation gaps, flaky tests and opportunities to improve test efficiency.
• Own the team's Quality Dashboard, roadmap and quality reporting for Engineering/Product leadership.
• Track automation coverage, defect leakage, production defects, regression health, test execution, flaky tests, release readiness and quality risks.
• Convert quality metrics into actionable improvement initiatives.
• Partner with Developers, Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, Architects and Product teams.
• Drive root-cause analysis and preventive actions for significant defects.
• Promote developer ownership of quality and consistent engineering quality practices.
• Prioritize quality activities across multiple concurrent initiatives without becoming a delivery bottleneck.
• 6–8 years of Quality Engineering / Software Testing experience.
• Strong hands-on API and backend automation experience.
• Strong scripting/programming skills for test automation.
• Strong knowledge of Bruno, Postman or equivalent API testing tools.
• Excellent understanding of manual, exploratory, functional, integration and regression testing.
• Experience with automation frameworks such as Playwright/Selenium, REST API automation, C#/NUnit/xUnit or equivalent.
• Strong REST API, SQL and database testing skills; exposure to NoSQL.
• Good understanding of .NET/C#, Azure and CI/CD.
• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience defining test strategy, quality metrics and quality dashboards.
• Good understanding of ReactJS/UI testing, but UI is not the primary focus.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Load and Performance Testing experience.
• Performance testing tools such as JMeter, k6 or equivalent.
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with contract testing and production-quality monitoring.
