Job summary

Qualifications

  • Diploma or BE/BTech in Mechanical/Metallurgical/Production Engineering.
  • Experience in Roll Shop, Guide Shop, or Workshop operations in Wire Rod Mill, Bar Mill, or similar setup (0.5 MTPA+).
  • Sr. Engineer: 6-10 years' experience in corresponding WRM mechanical roles.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise roll grinding, grooving, inspection, and assembly to align with production plans.
  • Set up roll pass assemblies, ensure proper mounting, and maintain required tolerances for each rolling campaign.
  • Monitor roll wear, surface quality, and coordinate corrective actions for enhanced roll life and minimized defects.
  • Maintain accurate records of roll inventory, usage, re-grooving cycles, and performance.
  • Coordinate with production and quality teams for real-time feedback on roll and surface performance.
  • Ensure the balancing, alignment, and finishing of rolls to maintain product standards.
  • Oversee the preparation, inspection, and setup of guides for all rolling stands and monitor guide wear, alignment, and lubrication systems.
  • Plan guide availability per product size and campaign; support guide inventory, reconditioning, or fabrication as needed.
  • Analyze guide failure modes and implement improvements for guide life and defect reduction.
  • Supervise machining, fabrication, and repair work for WRM mechanical components; manage lathe, milling, grinding, drilling, and welding operations in the workshop.
  • Plan and execute the repair and reconditioning of roll and guide assemblies; ensure proper inventory and calibration of workshop tooling.
  • Lead urgent maintenance or fabrication during breakdowns or planned shutdowns.
  • Implement preventive and predictive maintenance on roll grinders, balancing machines, and related workshop tools in coordination with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and failure analysis to prevent repeated issues and maintain maintenance schedules and reliability reports.
  • Ensures strict adherence to safety for all shop personnel; lead toolbox talks, enforce PPE usage, perform hazard identification, and ensure LOTO compliance; maintain high housekeeping and 5S standards and meet environmental norms.
  • Monitor roll and guide performance data and recommend technical or process improvements for cost control and quality gains.
  • Maintain and report daily activities, downtime analysis, and technical findings; participate in internal audits and technical reviews; support continuous improvement projects for tool life, downtime, and process consistency.

Preferred candidate profile

Education & Experience

  • Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Production Engineering.
  • Engineer: 36 years' experience in Roll Shop, Guide Shop, or Workshop operations in Wire Rod Mill, Bar Mill, or similar setup (0.5 MTPA+).
  • Sr. Engineer: 6-10 years' experience in corresponding WRM mechanical roles involving operations supervision and equipment maintenance.
