The Senior Database Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, optimizing, and maintaining database systems that support a national level initiative's complex and large-scale web and mobile applications. The role requires deep expertise in both relational and NoSQL databases, data warehousing, and cloud-based storage systems to ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of backend services. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams and ensure database components integrate seamlessly within a microservices-based architecture.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain relational and NoSQL databases including Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, and Redshift
- Build and optimize data models, schema design, indexes, and stored procedures for high-performance web and mobile applications
- Implement efficient data pipelines, ETL jobs, and transformations aligned with Redshift and S3-based architectures
- Monitor and fine-tune performance of databases; analyze slow queries and manage indexes
- Manage database access control, authentication, and security policies using Keycloak, JWT, and AES-256 encryption
- Handle data caching and visualization integration using Redash and CloudFront
- Support message-driven workflows and event-driven architecture involving RabbitMQ
- Manage and optimize database networking and routing with API Gateway and ELB (Elastic Load Balancer)
- Automate database deployment, monitoring, and alerting with Docker, Jenkins, AWS pipelines, ELK Stack, and OpenSearch
- Ensure high availability, backups, disaster recovery, and data compliance
- Collaborate with backend developers (Laravel PHP), DevOps, and frontend teams (React JS/React Native) to align database structure with application logic
- Maintain detailed documentation on database design, processes, configurations, and access logs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science/IT, Information Systems, or a related discipline
- Minimum 8+ years of hands‑on experience in database engineering in large‑scale, high-traffic environments
- Experience in cloud‑based infrastructure
- Certifications in database administration (PostgreSQL, Redshift, or DynamoDB), or DevOps tools is a plus
Preferred Skills
- Strong hands‑on experience with Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, Redshift, and S3 for scalable and secure data storage and processing
- Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL queries, stored procedures, and performing data modeling for high‑performance applications
