Job description
JOB DESCRIPTION
Design, deploy, and manage databases on AWS including DB on EC2, RDS (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle), Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, and ElastiCache.
Implement and maintain high availability, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
Monitor and optimize database performance, slow queries, indexing, replication, and storage utilization.
Manage database upgrades, patching, parameter tuning, and lifecycle operations.
Lead database migration projects using AWS DMS, SCT, native tools, and custom scripting.
Convert on-premises databases to cloud-native architectures (Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, etc.).
Optimize schemas, queries, and data flows for cloud-based performance improvements.
Automate provisioning, patching, and monitoring using Lambda, SSM Automation, or scripting (Python/Bash).
Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK) for database resources.
Build automated health checks, failover tests, and data validation tools.
Implement encryption at rest and in transit using KMS and database-native encryption.
Manage IAM roles, database authentication, parameter groups, and secrets using AWS Secrets Manager or Parameter Store.
Enforce least privilege, auditing, logging, and compliance controls such as CIS, PCI, HIPAA, or SOC2.
Set up database monitoring using CloudWatch, Performance Insights, Enhanced Monitoring, or third-party tools.
Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, connection issues, replication delays, and scaling challenges.
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures.
Work with application teams to design optimal schemas and query patterns.
Collaborate with DevOps for CI/CD integration and automated database deployments.
