Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services in Pune district seeks a Database Migration Engineer to lead data migrations, configure on‑premise to AWS EC2 migrations, and ensure database performance, security and availability.

You will work with MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Oracle, write and optimize SQL statements, understand storage engines and document migration processes with stakeholders to meet client needs.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in MS SQL, MySQL, and PostgreSQL DB management.
• Experience with MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL versions.
• Understanding of storage engines used by databases.
• Knowledge of database standards and best practices.
• Proficient at writing and optimizing SQL statements.
• Experience with other SQL databases.

Responsibilities

• Perform traditional data migration using backup-restore for small to large databases.
• Configure on-premise DB servers and AWS EC2 instances.
• Ensure database performance, security, and availability.
• Handle SQL Server installation, mirroring, migration, HA, DR and Always On.
• Prepare documentation and customer processes for migration needs.
• Migrate encrypted data (e.g., PII, PCI) safely.
• Manage common DB procedures like upgrade, backup/restore, recovery, and migration.
• Profile server resource usage and optimize as needed.
• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
• Plan resource requirements from high-level specifications.

Role & responsibilities

As a Database Migration Engineer, you should be able to:

• Traditional data migration using backup, restore approach for small to large size databases.
• Ensure the right configuration and objects are in place, like on-premises database servers to AWS EC2 instances.
• Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases.
• SQL Server Installation, Mirroring, Database migration, High Availability, Disaster Recovery and Always on feature.
• Prepare documentation and maintain the right set of customer processes to meet migration needs.
• Handling and migrating encrypted and different types of data (e.g.: PII, PCI etc.)
• Handle common database procedures, such as upgrade, backup & restore, recovery, migration, etc.
• Profile server resource usage, optimize and tweak as necessary,
• Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
• Ability to plan resource requirements from high level specifications

Also, database Engineer should have:

• Strong proficiency in MS SQL, MySQL and PostgreSQL database management.
• Decent experience with recent versions of MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL
• Understanding of underlying storage engines of database
• Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in database
• Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements
• Proficiency with other SQL databases
