Job summary

Genpact is seeking a SQL Server DBA to join our Database Operations team providing 24x7 support. The role emphasizes proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and end-to-end database administration including patching, backup, recovery and performance tuning to ensure critical systems stay up and running.

Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience with SQL Server versions 2008 through 2017, Always On/FCI configurations, and a strong understanding of security, maintenance plans, and disaster

Job description

We are looking for SQL Server DBA to join our Database Operations team that works 24x7x365 to ensure our critical systems are up and serving our customers round the clock. The candidate should have the strong mindset to look at the bigger picture, think over and beyond, suggest steps to gain greater control over complex systems.

In this role, the Candidate is responsible for proactively monitoring the key dashboards, analyzing the events and resource contentions and troubleshooting them in a timely manner, provide solutions for resolving them before they create a widespread impact. This role requires strong hands-on experience in database installation, configuration, administration and routine scheduled activities such as patching, backup and recovery, Ops work pockets and performance tuning to quickly understand end to end application flow.

Job Qualifications:

• Install and configure standalone SQL Servers and Always on clusters for Test, Dev, Staging and Production environment.
• Should have practical experience on MS SQL Server 2008/2012/2014/2016/2017 versions.
• Troubleshoot various problems that arise during SQL, service packs installations and fix the issues
• Plan and implement major upgrades, ensuring system integrity and monitoring
• Extensive hands-on experience in Database migrations from lower to higher versions in
• Database Backup & Recovery
• Evaluate and deploy security patches as necessary
• Review and deploy the scripts into the production.
• Own database maintenance plans, including rebuilding/reorganizing indexes, integrity checks
• Experience with Enterprise environment change control procedure.
• Work with developers to improve database performance, slow running queries / processing
• Ensure high levels of performance, availability, sustainability and security
• Environments Setup High Availability as part Disaster Recovery Strategy for the Databases
• Good practical experience on Clustering, Always On, Database Mirroring, Log Shipping
• Implement and maintain database security
• Define and enforce database security best practices, including both user access and data at rest
• Create and configure a single and multi-node SQL Server failover cluster instance
• Add or Remove Nodes in a SQL Server Failover Cluster
• Analyze, solve, and prepare RCA for production outages.
• Debug and troubleshoot database system failures and provide solutions quickly.
• Troubleshoot SQL Server service outages as they occur, including after-hours and weekends

Qualifications & Requirements

• 6+ years of rich experience on multiple database technologies primarily SQL server
• Thorough knowledge of SQL Server installation, configurations, troubleshooting, performance tuning skills required.
• Experience implementing and managing Windows clustering and AlwaysOn Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), Always-On Availability Groups, Mirroring, Log shipping.
• Thorough knowledge of Windows, 2012, 2016 and preferable 2019.
• Ability to diagnose problems and triage/resolve issues across various tiers (application, network, database, server, or storage tiers).
• Must have strong experience with TSQL, Powershell scripting.
• Ability to implement automation to reduce manual administrative tasks through use of jobs or other technologies.
• Experience in database upgrade/migrate, patching, backup recovery of large databases.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Positive attitude and strong commitment to delivering quality work, Ability to multitask under pressure, prioritize work based on criticality.
• Should be flexible and open to work in 24x7 environment in any shifts, willing to work on holidays, over weekends as per the demand from Project.

• Automation and Governance: Administers IT Runbook system to ensure all processes are properly documented and adhered to published standards. Enforces compliance requirements for documentation’s data integrity, accuracy, and completeness. Helps automate, streamline or rectify workflows required for onboarding or instrumentation of applications, infrastructure, databases, and other middleware tiers to monitoring products.
• Site Reliability Mindset: Participates in root cause analysis exercise and builds post-mortem documents of the critical problems. Identifies opportunities, design and build automated tools that help reduce efforts and saves cost on repeatable tasks for cross-platform products.
