Qualifications

• 5-8 years of hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration for large production environments.
• Strong experience with SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 administration, installation, upgrades, and migrations.
• Experience with high availability and disaster recovery technologies such as Always On, Transactional Replication, Log Shipping, and Backup & Recovery.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, administer, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases across Production and non-Production environments.
• Monitor database health, performance, availability, and capacity for reliability.
• Perform performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and issue troubleshooting.
• Manage HA/DR solutions like Always On, Replication, Log Shipping, Backup & Recovery.
• Plan upgrades, migrations, patching, and maintenance with minimal downtime.
• Collaborate with development teams to optimize design and queries.
• Automate routine DBA tasks using T-SQL and PowerShell.
• Implement database security, manage user access, and maintain documentation.

Position Summary:

We are looking for an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator with 5-8 years of hands-on experience managing large-scale, mission-critical SQL Server environments. The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in SQL Server administration, database performance tuning, High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), automation, and production support.

The ideal candidate should possess a deep understanding of SQL Server internals, including the SQL Server Query Optimizer, execution plan generation, storage engine, page-level data storage, B-Tree index structures, index cardinality and statistics, locking and latching, memory architecture, and other core database engine concepts. This foundational knowledge is essential for managing large-scale, high-throughput SQL Server environments and solving complex performance challenges.

This role requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has experience supporting large OLTP databases with stringent availability and performance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, administer, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases across Production and non-Production environments.
• Monitor database health, performance, availability, and capacity to ensure optimal system reliability.
• Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, index management, and troubleshooting of production issues.
• Manage High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, Transactional Replication, Log Shipping, and Backup & Recovery.
• Plan and execute SQL Server upgrades, migrations, patching, and maintenance activities with minimal downtime.
• Collaborate with development teams to optimize database design, SQL queries, and application performance.
• Automate routine DBA activities using T-SQL and PowerShell to improve operational efficiency.
• Implement database security, manage user access, and maintain operational documentation and standards.
• Participate in production incident management, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and a on-call rotational to provide 24x7 support for business-critical production systems.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 5-8 years of hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration supporting large production environments.
• Strong experience with SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 administration, installation, configuration, upgrades, and migrations.
• Hands-on experience managing large OLTP databases (5 TB+ preferred) with expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, execution plan analysis, indexing, and statistics.
• Strong knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) technologies, including Always On Availability Groups, Transactional Replication, Log Shipping, and Backup & Recovery.
• Good understanding of SQL Server internals, including storage engine, query optimizer, locking, blocking, transactions, indexing, partitioning, and data compression.
• Experience monitoring and troubleshooting CPU, memory, I/O, TempDB, blocking, deadlocks, and other production performance issues.
• Proficiency in T-SQL, SQL Server Agent, Extended Events, Query Store, DMVs, and PowerShell scripting for database administration and automation.
• Experience implementing SQL Server security, including logins, permissions, roles, auditing, and encryption.
• Exposure to enterprise monitoring tools (SQL Sentry, Redgate SQL Monitor, Grafana, SolarWinds, etc.) and cloud platforms such as AWS RDS or Azure SQL is an added advantage.
• Experience with PostgreSQL database administration is an added advantage.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to support business-critical 24x7 production systems.
