Job summary

Lloyd’s Register Group in Navi Mumbai invites a qualified professional to perform assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, research or development within defined parameters. You will undertake design appraisal and MARPOL statutory activities, ensure compliance with procedures and industry standards, and coach less‑experienced colleagues as needed.

Qualifications

  • A degree or equivalent in engineering or physical science (minimum two years programme).
  • Proficiency in English language.
  • Experience with design appraisal work and MARPOL.
  • Solid maritime industry understanding.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work across different nationalities and cultures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, research or development work within defined parameters.
  • Undertake design appraisal and MARPOL statutory activities.
  • Conduct activities in line with procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
  • Suggest improvements to processes or scope to enhance service delivery and reduce appraisal effort.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced colleagues as agreed with line manager.
  • Assess and recommend time/value of work for internal/external clients within fee/cost structures.
  • Undertake administration as required and engage in CPD.
  • Contribute to service delivery improvement through client feedback.
  • Review health and safety risk register, apply controls and communicate risk results.
  • Work safely, report incidents promptly and raise health and safety concerns.

The Role
Key Responsibilities:
  • To perform assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, research or development work within agreed parameters that includes budget constraints and contractual requirements.
  • Undertake Design appraisal and Statutory review activities within the agreed parameters including budget constraints and contractual requirements.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • To make suggestions to improve service delivery effectiveness through changes to processes or work scope such that it leads to a reduction in appraisal effort (where applicable)
  • Coaching of less experienced colleagues and act as a mentor to colleagues as agreed with line manager.
  • To assess / recommend the time / value of the work to be undertaken for an internal / external client within an agreed fee / cost structure.
  • Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
  • To pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
  • To assist in service delivery improvement by communicating internal / external client feedback as appropriate.
Key Health & Safety Responsibilities:
  • Eliminate or minimize employee's exposure to risks by reviewing, regularly, the health and safety risk register, applying appropriate controls, communicating results of risk assessment, and ensuring health and safety is considered in the planning and execution of all LR activities
  • Assess the risks and work in a safe manner at all times, robustly implementing health and safety rules, instructions and systems and refuse to undertake work that compromises your safety or health.Report in a timely manner all incidents including near miss and safety observations (NMSO), accidents and injuries and raise any health and safety concerns with your line manager.
What you bring
Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements:
  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and / or relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer or engineer.
  • Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
  • Experience of working and understanding of Design appraisal work and Statutory activities (MARPOL) Demonstrable good understanding of maritime industry.
  • Solid technical background in a similar industry would be an advantage.
  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities, planning and organising with good time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines and prioritise workload.
  • Motivated, responsive collaborator with an interest in safety and keen to use initiative.
  • A solution-focused approach to problem solving with the ability to work methodically when deadlines are tight and complete tasks on time.
  • Experience and ability of working across different nationalities and cultures.
