Job summary

Virtual Building Studio is seeking an experienced Scan to Civil 3D Specialist to convert point cloud and survey data into accurate Civil 3D models. You will interpret existing site conditions and develop surfaces, alignments, profiles, and 3D polylines while upholding project standards and delivery timelines.

The role requires 3–5 years hands-on Autodesk Civil 3D/AutoCAD work, strong knowledge of terrains, road features, georeferencing, and coordinate systems, plus the ability to perform

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of hands-on experience with Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of Civil 3D surfaces, alignments, profiles, feature lines, grading and existing-condition/site modeling.
• Experience working with point clouds / laser scan data / survey data is strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of topographic surveys, site plans and as-built documentation.
• Knowledge of coordinate systems, survey control, georeferencing and elevation data.

Responsibilities

• Develop accurate Civil 3D models and drawings from point cloud and survey data.
• Interpret existing site conditions including terrain, roads, curbs, sidewalks/hardscape, utilities, structures, and other site features.
• Create and manage surfaces, feature lines, alignments, profiles, corridors, grading, breaklines, and 3D polylines as required by project scope.
• Extract and model existing topographical and civil information from registered point clouds.
• Work with survey coordinates, coordinate systems, elevations, benchmarks, and georeferenced data.
• Prepare accurate existing-condition/as-built Civil 3D deliverables.
• Review point clouds for completeness and identify missing, unclear, or conflicting information before/during production.
• Perform QA/QC of Civil 3D models and drawings against point cloud and project requirements.
• Maintain appropriate layer standards, object styles, naming conventions, and client templates.
• Coordinate with Project Managers/Team Leads regarding project queries, assumptions, and technical requirements.
• Support junior team members and provide technical guidance where required.
• Ensure projects meet agreed quality, accuracy, productivity, and delivery timelines.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Scan to Civil 3D Specialist with strong knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D and experience working with point clouds, survey data, and existing site conditions.

Required Skills & Experience

• 3-5 years of hands‑on experience with Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of Civil 3D surfaces, alignments, profiles, feature lines, grading and existing‑condition/site modeling.
• Experience working with point clouds / laser scan data / survey data is strongly preferred.
• Good understanding of topographic surveys, site plans and as‑built documentation.
• Knowledge of coordinate systems, survey control, georeferencing and elevation data.
• Ability to interpret large point‑cloud datasets and accurately identify existing civil/site features.
• Strong understanding of Civil 3D styles, layers, templates and drawing standards.
• Ability to independently execute projects and perform self‑QA/QC.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies between scan data and modeled information.

Preferred Knowledge

Experience with any of the following would be an advantage:

• Autodesk ReCap
• CloudCompare
• Point-cloud registration/processing workflows
• Scan-to-CAD / Scan-to-BIM workflows
• Utility and site infrastructure modeling
• Survey drawings and GIS/geospatial data
• International projects, particularly US civil/site standards

Expected Profile

The ideal candidate should be able to take a registered point cloud/survey dataset and independently develop an accurate existing‑condition Civil 3D model, identify technical issues in the input data, coordinate queries, and deliver a QA/QC‑compliant output with minimal supervision.
