Job summary

Hitachi Digital Services is seeking a Technical Consultant for SharePoint Online to design, migrate and optimize modern SharePoint solutions. You will drive automation with Power Automate, manage governance and security, and work with Azure integrations to deliver scalable 365 collaboration services.

You will partner with business stakeholders and delivery partners, shaping IA, templates, and reusable components while ensuring a secure, maintainable platform aligned with digital transformation

Job Description

Position Purpose/Objective (in broad terms describe what the job does and the expected end results)
Global IT is on a strategic journey to modernize Microsoft 365 collaboration capabilities, delivering secure, scalable and user-friendly SharePoint Online services across all global sites.
The Technical Consultant – SharePoint Online sits within the IT – Core Business Solutions team and serves as the primary technical authority for SharePoint Online, modern SharePoint architecture and the Sharepoint Framework (SPFx). This role is responsible for designing, developing, migrating and optimizing SharePoint Online solutions, including the modernization and migration of classic SharePoint sites to the SharePoint Online modern experience.
Reporting to the ITDP/Solution Architect, this role combines deep Microsoft 365 engineering expertise with automation and integration skills across Power Automate, PowerShell and Azure cloud services. The consultant leads technical delivery, guides best-practice adoption, supports governance and compliance, and ensures the platform remains secure, maintainable and future-ready in alignment with digital transformation roadmap.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Take ownership of the functional and technical solutions in the designated Microsoft 365 / SharePoint domain.
• Review and manage changes and daily operations delivered by external partners, ensuring quality, maintainability and adherence to standards.
• Translate business requirements into clear SharePoint Online functional and technical designs, including information architecture, security model, automation and integration patterns.

Technical Ownership & Governance

• Act as the primary technical SME for SharePoint Online, modern sites, communication sites, team sites, hub sites, lists, libraries, content types and metadata models.
• Define and maintain SharePoint Online governance covering site lifecycle, ownership, permissions, external sharing, naming standards, information protection, retention and operational support handover.
• Establish best-practice design principles for SharePoint Online solutions, covering usability, accessibility, searchability, performance, security, maintainability and supportability.
• Provide technical guidance to business stakeholders, IT Business Partners, Solution Architects, AMS teams and external delivery partners.

Design, Build, Migration & Automation

• Design, develop and support modern SharePoint Framework (SPFx) solutions using the latest supported SPFx patterns, including web parts, extensions and reusable components aligned to development standards.
• Lead the migration and modernization of classic SharePoint sites to SharePoint Online, including assessment, remediation, migration planning, modern site design, validation and post-migration stabilization.
• Develop and maintain Power Automate cloud flows for approvals, notifications, document lifecycle automation and business process orchestration, replacing legacy workflows where applicable.
• Use PowerShell and PnP PowerShell for SharePoint Online administration, provisioning, permissions reporting, bulk updates, migration support and operational automation.
• Design and implement integrations with Microsoft platform services including Azure cloud services, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Graph, Teams and other enterprise applications where required.
• Define reusable templates, provisioning patterns, runbooks and technical standards for secure and scalable SharePoint Online delivery.
• Participate in solution reviews, change reviews, testing, deployment and hypercare for SharePoint Online enhancements and migration releases.
• Respond to security, compliance and audit observations by remediating configuration gaps and providing evidence for implemented controls.

Delivery & Stakeholder Management

• Engage with business stakeholders to refine requirements and convert them into practical Microsoft 365 / SharePoint Online solutions.
• Coordinate with AMS vendors and third-party partners to ensure operational continuity, release coordination, incident/problem resolution and knowledge transfer.
• Support escalations and complex issue resolution related to SharePoint Online, Power Automate, PowerShell automation, Azure integrations and migration defects.

Team & Capability

• Ensure proper documentation, configuration records, solution design documents and runbooks are maintained for the SharePoint Online platform.
• Promote best practices, knowledge sharing, reuse of standard components and continuous improvement across Microsoft 365 collaboration services.
