Job summary

Woolworths Group is seeking a Solution Architect (Engineering Team) to drive architectural strategy across traditional applications, LLMs, and AI. You will define system architecture, technology stack, and secure-by-design, cost-optimized solutions that scale.

The role requires hands-on leadership, deep GCP expertise, and experience with Kubernetes and ML platforms, plus the ability to communicate complex decisions to stakeholders and translate business goals into blueprints and roadmaps.

What You'll Do

In this high-impact role, you will be instrumental in establishing our architectural foundation. You will:

• Architectural Design: Define the overall system architecture, technology stack, and best practices for our entire portfolio, from web applications to cutting-edge AI services and LLM . You will be responsible for creating secure by design, cost-optimized, and testable architectures that guide the team.
• Design and lead the development of our Gen AI applications, ensuring the infrastructure and tooling can support the unique demands of large language models and other generative AI workloads.
• Strategic Planning: Partner with product and engineering leads to translate high-level business goals into clear technical blueprints and long-term roadmaps.
• Technical Governance: Ensure that new projects and features align with the architectural standards you've established. You will be responsible for documenting and communicating these principles.
• System Metrics: Define the key architectural metrics for system monitoring and alerting, ensuring that our observability tools capture the right data for performance and reliability analysis.
• Data Strategy: Lead the design of data management and governance pipelines, ensuring data is handled securely and is ready for use in machine learning models.

Who You Are

You are a strategic, hands-on problem-solver with a knack for turning ambiguity into a clear, actionable plan. You should have:

• Hands-on Experience: Proven experience as a Solution Architect, with a strong focus on establishing and scaling architectures from an early stage.
• Technical Expertise: Deep expertise in GCP, with a comprehensive understanding of its various services. You should be comfortable with a diverse set of technologies, including traditional web frameworks, containerization (Kubernetes), and machine learning platforms.
• Strategic Mindset: The ability to think big and translate complex business requirements into elegant, scalable technical solutions.
• Collaboration: Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Initiative & Delivery Focus: Proven ability to take complete ownership of complex technical programs from 0 to 100, driving alignment, removing blockers, and delivering high-quality business outcomes.
