Job summary

Applied Materials India Pvt Ltd is hiring a Software QA Engineer in Chennai. The role involves developing and maintaining test automation frameworks using Playwright and internal AMAT tools, plus both automated and manual testing across multiple product areas.

You will leverage AI tools to automate workflows and work with engineering to ensure software quality. You will analyze defects, review engineering documentation, and contribute to test planning and documentation.

Qualifications

• Experience with test automation frameworks.
• Ability to create and maintain automated tests.
• Familiar with AI-assisted testing tools.
• Able to review product code and understand defects.
• Willingness to work with cross-functional teams and customers.

Responsibilities

• Create/maintain test automation frameworks (non-UI) using Playwright and internal tools.
• Create and maintain automated tests for the product.
• Maintain test execution setup and report results.
• Write test cases and perform/manual tests as needed.
• Use AI tech (MCPs, Copilot, Claude) and build AI agents to automate workflows.
• Review engineering docs and provide defect/root-cause insights.
• Design test plans, test cases, and system tests.
• Develop software test documentation.
• Troubleshoot complex software issues.
• Resolve customer-reported issues with support and customers.

Software QA Engineer

As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials, you’ll dive deep into ground-breaking technologies—like machine learning and AI—to craft novel software solutions that solve our customers’ high-value problems.

Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing, prototyping, developing, and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. You'll develop software documentation and test procedures, troubleshoot software problems, and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements. As part of our team, you'll contribute your expertise in intricate systems, deciphering code, and anticipating software behaviors to ensure Applied remains the leader in the semiconductor and display sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and/or maintain test automation frameworks that use Playwright and AMAT internal tools (Non-UI)
• Create and/or maintain automated tests for the product
• Maintain test execution setup and monitor/report test results
• Write test cases and execute manual tests wherever required
• Use AI technologies such as MCPs, Copilot and Claude, and create AI agents for automating workflows
• Review and understand product code and provide insight on defects and root causes
• Create, review and understand engineering documents such as analysis, design, and requirement documents
• Design general test plan, test cases, system test
• Develop software test documentation
• Troubleshoot software problems of limited to complex difficulty levels
• Resolve customer-reported issues in the product by working with customer support and directly with customers
