Software Engineering Associate Director

Position Summary:

The Software Engineering Associate Director provides hands-on leadership, management, and thought leadership for a delivery organization enabling Cigna's Technology teams. This individual will lead a team based in our Hyderabad Innovation Hub to deliver innovative solutions supporting multiple business and technology domains within Cigna. This includes Service Operations, Entities, Pharmacy business lines, as well as testing and DevOps enablement. The focus of the team is to build innovative solutions enabling business while modernizing our existing asset base to support business growth. The Technology strategy is aligned with our business strategy, and the candidate will influence technology direction, establish our team through recruiting and mentoring employees and vendor resources. This is a hands-on position with visibility to the highest levels of the Cigna Technology team. The role focuses on enabling innovation using the latest technologies and development techniques, fostering a scalable delivery organization, and attracting and developing talent in a dynamic environment.

Job Description & Responsibilities:

1. Provide leadership, vision, and design direction for the quality and development of the US Medical and Health Services Technology teams based at the Hyderabad Innovation Hub (HIH).
2. Work closely with leaders and teams in the United States, including contractors, to deliver products and capabilities supporting Cigna's business lines.
3. Provide leadership to HIH leaders and teams to ensure objectives related to design, configuration, implementation, and quality engineering are met.
4. Hands-on management of talented technology professionals, working with developers, quality engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure solutions meet business requirements.
5. Foster an inclusive environment, coaching and mentoring teams, and incubate emerging technologies and open-source products.
6. Build resilient, scalable platforms focusing on strategic vision and technology roadmap delivery in an iterative approach.
7. Drive timely decisions, influence teams, and ensure engineering solutions align with strategy and support application requirements.
8. Maximize operational efficiency, monitor assets proactively, and identify process improvements.

Experience Required:

• 16 to 18 years of IT and business experience, with at least 5 years in leadership roles managing large-scale projects.
• Strong cross-cultural communication skills and familiarity with a broad range of technologies and stakeholders.
• High emotional intelligence to foster collaboration across dispersed teams.

Experience Desired:

• Proven leader with a track record of delivering software engineering and cross-IT initiatives.
• Experience managing technical teams, talent development, and vendor management.
• Healthcare and Pharmacy industry experience, with familiarity with AWS.

Education and Certifications:

• B.S. in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• Certifications such as AWS Solution Architect, PMP, Scrum Master, or Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.

Primary Skills:

• Experience with application development technologies: Python, RESTful services, React, Angular, Postgres, MySQL.
• Data engineering technologies: Databricks, Spark, PySpark, SQL, Teradata, multi-cloud environments.
