Job summary

Airtel in Gurugram seeks a Software Engineer/Senior Software Engineer to join our networking team. The role emphasizes Python scripting, Linux environments, and OpenWrt-based Wi‑Fi technologies.

You will work on end-to-end product support, including design, testing, deployment, and troubleshooting of network solutions. Ideal candidates have a CS/EC/IT background, solid networking fundamentals, and hands-on Python automation experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Information Technology.
• Foundational networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Ethernet, IPv4/IPv6).
• Hands-on or coursework in Wireshark and network packet analysis.
• Proficiency in Python and scripting for automation or data parsing.
• Exposure to Linux environments and shell scripting.
• Understanding of Wi‑Fi technologies (802.11, roaming, security).
• Ability to diagnose Wi‑Fi issues and perform troubleshooting.
• Exposure to OpenWrt is a plus.
• Good communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Technical co-ownership of the product from concept to deployment and ongoing improvements.
• Assist in product software evaluation and propose Airtel-aligned solutions.
• Translate Airtel network requirements into device specifications.
• Monitor and troubleshoot network performance using Wireshark and diagnostic tools.
• Support configuration and maintenance of network devices (e.g., access points).
• Write basic Python scripts to automate routine network tasks and data analysis.
• Collaborate with senior engineers for device testing and validation.
• Work in Linux environments for scripting, log analysis, and diagnostics.
• Document network configurations, procedures and troubleshooting steps.
• Participate in root cause analysis and resolution of network issues.
• Stay updated with emerging networking technologies and standards.
• Internship or project experience in networking is a plus.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Software Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of networking concepts and scripting (preferably in Python). Familiarity with Linux environments, OpenWRT, Wi‑Fi technologies, and diagnostic tools like Wireshark is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Technical co-ownership of the product from its journey of conceptualizations, initial evaluation, solution design, execution, deployment, continuous improvement and assurances.
• Assist is product software evaluation and propose solutions as per Airtel requirements and deployments.
• Understanding Airtel network and requirements and translate those to device requirements.
• Assist in monitoring and troubleshooting network performance using tools like Wireshark and other diagnostic utilities.
• Support the configuration and maintenance of network devices (eg: access points).
• Write and maintain basic Python scripts to automate routine network tasks and data analysis.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to support device testing and validation
• Work within Linux environments for scripting, log analysis, and network diagnostics.
• Document network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

Required Qualifications:

• Hands‑on experience or coursework in Wireshark and network packet analysis.
• Proficiency in Python and scripting for automation or data parsing.
• Exposure to Linux environments and basic shell scripting.
• Understanding of Wi-Fi technologies and concepts (802.11 standards, SSIDs, authentication, roaming, mesh, steering, bandsteering etc).
• Ability to perform Wi‑Fi troubleshooting and diagnostics.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive attitude.
• Exposure to openwrt
• Good communication and documentation skills.
• Good to have knowledge on GPON, OMCI.
• Good to have proficiency in prplOS.
• Good to have knowledge of TR181 and TR369.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Internship or project experience in a networking or telecom environment.
• Certifications such as CCNA or vendor‑specific credentials.
• Familiarity with network security principles.
