Job summary

Bank of America is seeking an experienced Java backend engineer to drive design and delivery of large-scale applications in the Identity Authentication and Authorization domain. You will build robust REST APIs and microservices with a focus on maintainability and security.

The role requires 8+ years of hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, SQL/Oracle, and modern CI/CD pipelines, plus familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Camunda, and cryptography using HSM.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or engineering.
• 8+ years of experience in similar roles.
• Strong experience building large-scale Java applications.
• Proficiency with REST APIs, microservices, and Spring/Spring Boot.
• Experience with SQL/Oracle DB and CI/CD tools.
• Familiarity with container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift) and cryptography concepts.

They will possess a solid understanding of modern development practices and exhibit strong ownership in driving outcomes.

Job Description*

This job is responsible for developing and delivering complex requirements to accomplish business goals. Key responsibilities of the job include ensuring that software is developed to meet functional, non-functional and compliance requirements, and solutions are well designed with maintainability/ease of integration and testing built-in from the outset. Job expectations include a strong knowledge of development and testing practices common to the industry and design and architectural patterns.

Responsibilities*

• Design, develop and accountable for feature delivery.
• Apply enterprise standards for solution design, coding, and quality.
• Ensure solution meets product acceptance criteria with minimal technical debt.
• Responsible for compliance and security items and audit support.
• Act as a liaison for production activities/issues.
• Participate in work breakdown and execution.
• Play a team member role, as an individual contributor.
• Mentor other team members whenever required.
• Participate in planning & estimation, peer reviews, and other engineering practices.
• Identify skill and role gaps and work with the Technology Manager to address them.
• Patriciate in creating resource contingency plans where required.
• Oversee detailed execution of assigned deliverables at every level - Requirements gathering, technical design, build and quality assurance.
• Ensure system design and requirements are aligned with business outcomes
• Uphold and promote coding standards, quality principles, and best practices across the team

Foundational skills*

• Strong experience in building large scale Java applications.
• Strong skills in design and developing robust RESTAPI and Micro Services. Proficiency in Spring/Spring Boot.
• Extensive knowledge and experience working with SQL, Stored Procedures, and Oracle DB
• Skilled in using CI/CD tool set (JIRA/Bitbucket/Jenkins/Artifactory/Ansible)
• Proficiency in development in Unix/Linux environment
• Proficiency in developing container-based architecture.
• Self-motived individual with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lead large and complex tasks including product upgrades and deployment of new capabilities and enhancements.
• Ability to work in a highly visible and fast-paced environment where business needs/priorities may change.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desired skills*

• Exposure mission critical web and API based applications.
• Familiarity with containerization, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker.
• Experience to Camunda and process orchestration
• Exposure to cryptography and programming with HSM
