Job summary

FactSet is seeking a backend engineer to design and maintain a high‑performance internal product centered on Apache Pulsar. You will build core messaging services, secure authentication integrations, and cross‑service connectivity with a hands‑on, cross‑functional approach.

You will work across C++, Java, Go, and Node.js, collaborating with identity, infra, and application teams to raise performance, reliability, and maintainability standards and deliver impactful solutions for the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 3–5 years of backend/platform software development with modern C++ (C++17+).
• Experience building services using messaging/streaming systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Provide timely support for production issues.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate core messaging capabilities on Apache Pulsar and related technologies.
• Develop a C++-based internal product and shared libraries with emphasis on performance, resilience, and clean interfaces.
• Define and implement cross‑language integrations and SDKs (C++, Java, Go, Node.js); establish versioned APIs and schema governance (e.g., AsyncAPI/OpenAPI, Avro/Protobuf).
• Improve Linux-based development and operational workflows: builds (CMake/Bazel), packaging, containerization, and performance tuning.
• Automate deployments and releases with CI/CD and infrastructure‑as‑code (e.g., GitHub Actions/Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform/Ansible).
• Document designs, review code, mentor peers, and collaborate closely with stakeholders.

What You'll Do:

• Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Computer Science or a related technical field
• 3-5 years of building backend/platform software with modern C++ (C++17 and above)
• Built services using messaging/streaming systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ etc)
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Docker and Kubernetes.

• Hands‑on experience with Apache Pulsar or similar messaging/streaming systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS), including pub/sub, partitions, ordering, idempotency, and delivery semantics.
• Comfortable working across languages (C++, Java, Go, Node.js) and designing cross‑language APIs/SDKs.
• Strong Linux fundamentals for development, debugging, and operations; scripting proficiency (Bash/Python).
• Experience with CI/CD, containers (Docker), and Kubernetes fundamentals; sound understanding of secure deployment practices.
• Clear communication, ownership mentality, and ability to drive work from design through production.
