Job summary

Qualifacts is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design and implement HIPAA-compliant patient portal systems in the behavioral health space. You will own features end-to-end from architecture through deployment in a hands-on role.

The position is onsite in Vadodara, India, Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM IST. Remote applicants will not be considered. You will mentor juniors, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to scalable data pipelines.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building production applications in Python/Django or similar.
• Strong systems thinker with distributed state, failure modes and long-term design.
• Deep SQL and data modelling instincts with migrations, query optimization, schema design.
• Distributed systems experience: async workflows, event-driven architecture, message queues.
• Proficient with AI-assisted development tooling in daily workflow.

What youll be doing

• Design and implement backend systems for a HIPAA-compliant patient portal in the behavioral health space
• Take ownership of complex features end-to-end - from architecture through deployment
• Contribute to system design decisions and raise the technical bar across the team

Required skills

• 5+ years building production applications on Python/Django or similar stacks
• Strong systems thinker: reasons about distributed state, failure modes, and long-term design tradeoffs - not just feature delivery
• Deep SQL and data modeling instincts - migrations, query optimization, schema design
• Distributed systems experience: async workflows, event-driven architecture, message queues
• AWS proficiency - Lambda, SQS, SNS, or comparable services
• React experience (class components a plus)
• Able to navigate ambiguous requirements, ask the right questions, and flag tradeoffs clearly
• Proficient with AI-assisted development tooling (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) as a daily driver

Nice to have

• Prior experience in healthcare or other compliance-heavy domains
• EHR or third-party platform integration experience
• Appetite to grow toward technical leadership
