Job summary

Abnormal AI seeks a Software Engineer to build the data backbone for our Multi-Product Platform in Bengaluru. You will create a standardized data access layer that serves across products, providing a single source of truth with tenant isolation and strong security.

You’ll own end-to-end development of APIs and services, drive data-source adoption, and contribute to architectural decisions while collaborating asynchronously with remote teams to maintain high throughput and reliability.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of industry experience with strong software engineering fundamentals.
• Proven ability to own complex problems and multi-component features end-to-end.
• Experience writing production code in Python and/or Go, with SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of system design, reliability, and scalability.

The Multi-Product Platform (MPP) organization owns the product platform that enables scalable product development, helping the business build and launch enterprise-grade products with a consistent customer experience.

This is a chance to build the data backbone that every Abnormal product depends on. As a Software Engineer on MPP, you’ll create the standardised data layer that becomes our single source of truth — the one governed path through which any system, agent, or interface can reach data from across every product, from a single record to cross-product aggregates, online or offline, in whatever shape it needs. It’s a genuinely hard, high-leverage problem: the layer has to serve the entire platform at high throughput and low latency without ever becoming the bottleneck, while enforcing tenant isolation, authentication, and fine‑grained access control so every team inherits strong security and reliability for free. You won’t be maintaining someone else’s system — you’ll be defining the foundation every product is built on, where getting it right compounds across the whole company.

What You’ll Do

Technical Delivery & Operational Excellence

• Design, build, and iterate on the APIs and services that make up the standardized data access layer.
• Drive adoption of API-gated data sources, so product teams expose their data once and every consuming surface can reuse it, instead of building one-off integrations.
• Design and implement standard labeling for data ownership, and build the validation logic that checks incoming requests against it.
• Own the reliability and stability of the components and features you build.
• Contribute to the team’s architectural decisions, and write technical design documents for the areas you own.
• Participate in regular code and design reviews as well as the team-wide on-call rotation.
• Write code with testability, readability, edge cases, and errors in mind.

Teamwork & Collaboration

• Communicate effectively in an asynchronous manner with team members to provide updates, discuss challenges, and propose solutions.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams as they adopt the shared data layer.
• Take ownership of projects and act as a driver who adds instant adrenaline and drives positive impact when placed on projects and teams.
• Participate in team roadmap discussions.
• Actively contribute to knowledge sharing within the team and participate in professional development activities.

Must Have Skills

• Software Engineer with 4+ years of industry experience and strong software engineering fundamentals.
• Growth-oriented, looking to increase impact, responsibility, and ownership over time.
• Proven ability to own complex problems and multi-component features end-to-end, with a growing ability to collaborate and influence across teams.
• Strong experience writing production code in Python and/or Golang, and working with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with system design and building reliable, scalable applications with an emphasis on operational excellence.
• Detail-driven, and care about code quality, testing, and performance.
• Ability to make practical trade-offs — evaluating multiple approaches and selecting the one that best balances customer impact, system complexity, and long‑term maintainability.
• Able to write technical design documents and contribute to design and architecture reviews.
• Strong understanding of service health, monitoring, fault tolerance, and incident response practices.
• Strong communication skills and proven ability to work autonomously and asynchronously with remote collaborators and stakeholders.
• Shares knowledge with teammates and helps establish team-level patterns and best practices.

Nice to Have Skills

• Experience designing or building data access layers, APIs, or platforms that other engineering teams build on top of.
• Experience treating an internal platform as a product — building for other engineering teams as your customers.
• Familiarity with ChatGPT, Cursor, and other GenAI productivity tools.
• Big Data platform usage is a plus.
