Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities

• Develop and deliver high‑quality software solutions using industry‑aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
• Ensure code is scalable, maintainable and optimized for performance.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with product managers, designers and engineers to define requirements, devise solution strategies and ensure seamless integration with business objectives.
• Participate in code reviews, promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations; contribute to the organisation’s technology communities.
• Adhere to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data.
• Implement effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability and reliability.

Leadership responsibilities (if applicable)

• Define jobs and responsibilities, plan for the department’s future needs, counsel employees on performance and pay decisions.
• Lead specialists to influence operations in alignment with strategic and tactical priorities, balancing short‑ and long‑term goals and ensuring budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.

Individual contributor responsibilities

• Act as subject‑matter expert within own discipline and guide technical direction.

Technical responsibilities

• Lead the overall engineering and development of the SOLD Simplification initiative.
• Coordinate and support requirement discovery, initiative planning, roadmap and stakeholder management.

Qualifications and skills

• Proficient in Java/J2EE stack, Spring Boot, and JavaJ2EE technologies.
• Expertise in Agile software development methodology.
• Hands‑on experience with SOLID Design principles.
• Experience with Spring AI and other emerging technology stacks.
• Development experience with AngularCLI, React, CSS and CSS pre‑processors, Node.js.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• Experience migrating legacy platforms to modern stacks.
• Knowledge of Java21, core Java, multithreading processing, RESTful API, Spring Batch, micro‑services architecture.
• Database query skills and Unix command proficiency.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, TeamCity.
• Familiarity with JIRA and Confluence.
• Business acumen, strategic thinking, risk and controls awareness.
