Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Develop and deliver high‑quality software solutions using industry‑aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
- Ensure code is scalable, maintainable and optimized for performance.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with product managers, designers and engineers to define requirements, devise solution strategies and ensure seamless integration with business objectives.
- Participate in code reviews, promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations; contribute to the organisation’s technology communities.
- Adhere to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data.
- Implement effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability and reliability.
Leadership responsibilities (if applicable)
- Define jobs and responsibilities, plan for the department’s future needs, counsel employees on performance and pay decisions.
- Lead specialists to influence operations in alignment with strategic and tactical priorities, balancing short‑ and long‑term goals and ensuring budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.

Individual contributor responsibilities
- Act as subject‑matter expert within own discipline and guide technical direction.
- Lead collaborative, multi‑year assignments and guide team members through structured assignments.
- Train, guide and coach less‑experienced specialists.
- Advise key stakeholders and senior management on functional and cross‑functional areas of impact.
- Manage and mitigate risks under the control and governance agenda.
- Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought.

Technical responsibilities
- Lead the overall engineering and development of the SOLD Simplification initiative.
- Coordinate and support requirement discovery, initiative planning, roadmap and stakeholder management.
- Engage with shift‑leadership to align with business strategy.
Qualifications and skills
- Proficient in Java/J2EE stack, Spring Boot, and JavaJ2EE technologies.
- Expertise in Agile software development methodology.
- Hands‑on experience with SOLID Design principles.
- Experience with Spring AI and other emerging technology stacks.
- Development experience with AngularCLI, React, CSS and CSS pre‑processors, Node.js.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
- Experience migrating legacy platforms to modern stacks.
- Knowledge of Java21, core Java, multithreading processing, RESTful API, Spring Batch, micro‑services architecture.
- Database query skills and Unix command proficiency.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, TeamCity.
- Familiarity with JIRA and Confluence.
- Business acumen, strategic thinking, risk and controls awareness.
